S2. E2. Cool for the Plumber
Ben and Jenny discuss Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, the first ever prince of Wales, and the last ever Welsh prince of Wales. They also discuss one of Egypt's longest ruling women Pharaohs, Hatshepsut, and her story of incest, queendom and questionable marriages.

    I'll Do It My Way

    I'll Do It My Way
We make a mistake when we try to fit God's will into ours instead of trying to fit our will into His. We cannot do what He wants us to do in our own way or we will get the results of our own actions. During the 4th plague, Pharaoh tried to appease God by giving Him what He wanted but by doing it his own way. His stubborn will led him and his people into devastation. At one point he may have been ready to relent just to avoid punishment, but it was too late. By the 6th plague, God hardened Pharaoh's heart Himself. He never had intention of worshipping or submitting himself to the Lord. So God used him to reveal Himself in a mighty way and rescue His people.

Cleopatra: She Came, She Saw, She Conquered, Epilogue

Cleopatra: She Came, She Saw, She Conquered, Epilogue

Cleopatra died more than 2,000 years ago. And yet stop any person on the street today and ask them who she was, and they’ll know – at least her name. That name has been attached to soaps and bath balms, to slot machines and casinos, to a popular brand of cigarettes. As an asteroid - 216 Kleopatra – the Egyptian queen has even made it to the stars. What is it about Cleopatra that has captured our imaginations for millennia? Why do we remember her the way that we do? Let's travel through the years from her death to the present, exploring the shapes her legacy has taken.

Special guests Dr. Rhiannon Evans, The Partial Historians, Queens Podcast, Vulgar History Podcast, and Ancient History Fangirl.

Cleopatra: She Came, She Saw, She Conquered, Part III

Cleopatra: She Came, She Saw, She Conquered, Part III

When we last left Cleopatra, she was creeping out the back door of a chaotic Rome in the wake of Julius Caesar’s death. As she sails the waves back to Alexandria, she broods over what might happen next. She’s just lost her Roman lover, ally, and protector, in a world where Rome is increasingly calling most of the shots. And then there is Caesarion, her son with Julius Caesar. In him, she has both a valuable advantage AND a potential danger. In some ways, she’s just as vulnerable as she was as a young exile. But Cleopatra is only now, a seasoned leader, and she isn’t one to sit back and let the gods take the wheel on her destiny. She’s managed to harness Rome’s powers in her favor and ensure her family’s continued legacy successfully before. And she can do it again—if she can just figure out how best to play the game.

Ep. 4.15: The Queen and The Pharaoh

Ep. 4.15: The Queen and The Pharaoh
This week, Max and Allison discuss two ladies who ruled over ancient Egypt. The first, a queen whose successors tried to erase from history, was both mortal ruler and godlike presence; the second, one of the most famous woman in all of ancient history, was so much more than the seductive temptress Rome made her out to be: Nefertiti and Cleopatra. / Intro and Ad Music provided by BenSound.com / Logo Art by Lauren Cierzan / Join the Conversation! thebitcheryofhistory.com / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Max: @QuirkyTitle Allison: @AHPowell91 / The Team: Janette Danielson (@Neddie94) Sydney Tannenbaum (@sydneyxmastree) Jess Lee (@jessmlee)

    Ep 802 - Isaiah 30:1-7

    Ep 802 - Isaiah 30:1-7

Where do you turn when the going gets tough? Is God your go-to source for help and hope, or do you find yourself seeking rescue in something or someone other than God? For the people of Judah, faced with the reality of God’s pending judgment in the form of defeat at the hands of their enemies, they decided to turn to Egypt for help. What an ironic development. Here was the nation that had been rescued from captivity in Egypt by the hand of God, turning to their former captors, in a futile effort to escape the coming judgment of God. And in Isaiah 30:1-7, the prophet will reveal just how ridiculous this plan really was. Egypt had not been able to stand up against God before, so what made the people of Judah think they could do it now? Worldly powers were no match for Almighty God. The Pharaoh may have been worshiped as a god, but he would prove anything but divine when he tried to thwart the will of the one true God. Judah would have been much better served by repenting of their rebellion and returning in humble submission to God. But they were like stubborn children and would rather turn to Egypt for help than turn back to God in repentance.

    She Walked Like an Egyptian

    She Walked Like an Egyptian

Alana and Allison wrap up Alana's reign as guest host discussing two women who ruled ancient Egypt. Hatshepsut came to the throne in 1478 BC and ruled for 20 years as one of Egypt's most successful pharaohs. Nefertiti co-ruled as queen with her husband beginning in 1353 BC, and may have ruled as pharaoh after his death.
