Welcome to the third and final instalment on our series on Bettie Page. This episode, we look not only at the mystery of what ever happened to the vanishing pinup, but the incredible influence she had on art, pop culture, the sub culture of fetishists and kink lovers of the 80s, through to the burlesque revival of the 90s as well as music, haute couture and fashion right through to today.

Meet Beth Claire

Hailing from Auckland, Beth moved to Whitianga three and a half years ago for a change of pace and to follow her partner’s painting business.

It was a huge change moving from the city and leaving behind her successful career as a fashion designer, designing for drag queens and pin-ups and earning a spot on the first season of Project Runway NZ.

Initially, the shift was difficult for Beth. She couldn’t even bear to look at her sewing machine as it reminded her of what she had left behind. She shifted her focus and decided to put energy into what she could achieve in a small town. 

From fashion designer to hospitality superstar in a year, Beth started working at the famous Luke’s Kitchen in Kūaotunu, and now she works at Coroclub in Whitianga airport, spending most of her time with her son, getting tattooed and riding her horse.

Beth comes to the Altbays Show to talk about the fashion world, the tough choices that must be made when you have a family and a successful career, mental health and much more!
