Syndromes Taking A Step Back From The Microscope Co Host Cody Dimak
Today’s episode was the first stab at having on a co-host, my good friend and great diagnostician Dr. Cody Dimak DC. I feel we can do better as a dual host on this particular topic of lower extremity syndromes.
What do all of these syndromes have in common?
Is there a common intersection point?
Do we always have to use manual therapies to treat these?
CORRELATED ARTICLE (MUST READ)
Below are some of the syndromes we cover in this podcast:
- IT Band Syndrome
- Maignes Syndrome
- Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
- Piriformis Syndrome
- Facet Syndrome
- Hip Flexor Syndrome
- Hip Impingement Syndrome
Within this podcast, we go through some of our clinical experience working with people with these “syndromes” and what has worked using a corrective exercise-focused approach first and manual therapy after if needed.
Have these concepts been validated 100% through research? No, but that’s ok. You’ll hear in #106 next week that most of the treatments and clinical judgement we use in practice that have great patient outcome don’t have solid scientific backing.
The theories we are utilize in this theoretical model are:
- Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization
- Vladimir Janda’s works
- Local research of each symptom with a local focus. (references will come in the correlated article that probably won’t be finished until Oct 2018. Check back for a link.)

E37 - The Magic Muscle Myth
This week on the Exercise Is Health podcast, Julie and Charlie discuss a predominant myth in the fitness world - the Magic Muscle Myth. The idea behind the Magic Muscle is that there is one muscle that, if released, relaxed, or strengthened, will be the fix-all to ALL of your physical health issues. Julie and Charlie discuss three of the most common muscles that are promoted in this manner - the psoas, the piriformis, and the rotator cuff muscles. Check out this episode to hear why the Magic Muscle idea is nothing but pure gym myth!
