    133. How a Positive Outlook Shapes Us in Jiu Jitsu

    133. How a Positive Outlook Shapes Us in Jiu Jitsu

Have you ever been in a situation where negativity just seems to seep into every corner? Picture this: you're at an academy, or perhaps in your everyday life, and there's that one individual whose bad attitude is spoiling it for everyone. We're all about the power of positivity and the damaging effects of a negative outlook in this episode. With the help of a thought-provoking question from Johnny B, we venture into the cultures of various academies, stressing the importance of a sunny disposition, regardless of the circumstances. Spoiler alert: a bad attitude won't get you far - in fact, it could even get you expelled.

Drawing parallels from my own academy, I delve into the role attitude plays in learning and teaching Jiu-Jitsu, leadership, and life strategies. While I also share some personal insights about my academy, the main focus is the significance of self-management and seeking help when negativity rears its ugly head. I urge you, listeners, to maintain an open dialogue, to reach out to your friends, training partners, and instructors, or to seek professional help when needed. Remember, one conversation could be the game-changer. Don't let a toxic environment of negativity ruin the fun and progress for everyone. After all, you can't change others, but you can definitely change your own attitude. Listen in for some revealing insights from this enlightening discussion.

CREATING A JOURNALING PRACTICE FOR A POSITIVE AND PRODUCTIVE DAY

CREATING A JOURNALING PRACTICE FOR A POSITIVE AND PRODUCTIVE DAY

I am sure most moms will take any advice when it comes to helping us have a more productive day but I guarantee if you build this practice into your routine you can have a more purposeful and productive day.

    What journaling can look like:

    1. A digital working document (i.e. in your GDrive)
    2. Keeping a written journal ( i used to do this but my hand would start to hurt and that would make me not want to journal)
    3. Bullet notes for your day (gratitude, to-do-lists, keep it in a place where it can stay compiled)

    What journaling does:

    1. Organizes thoughts- gain clarity (think where do I start, why am I feeling what I'm feeling)
    2. Relieves stress and anxiety
    3. Gives us direction. Makes us more purposeful. Increases our self-esteem/confidence

    What my practice looks like
    1. What I’ve learned
    2. My intention for the day
    3. 3 things I'm grateful for
    4. Top 3 things I need to get done today
    5. Then I write to myself or my kids

    Remember
Journal writing gives us insights into who we are, who we were, and who we can become.”  – Sandra Marinella

    World of Triggers

    World of Triggers

This episode of Degree of Experience we discuss how we keep a healthy and positive mindset in the midst of a negatively seeming world. Due to the nature of this topic it led to discussions of politics and world events, including COVID-19. Listener discretion is advised.

My official stance on issues surrounding COVID-19 is that any health decisions should be made between an individual and a certified doctor. If you are looking for information about COVID-19 I ask that you seek this information from your doctor or from the CDC at CDC.GOV. We are not certified mental health professionals and we are also not doctors. We are just two individuals with a degree of experience that we like to share with others so that we all may work together to grow as healthier human beings each day.
