    Preterm Birth

    Preterm Birth

There is a lot doctors and scientists still don’t fully understand about what includes labour, both pre and at term. But we do know that there are treatments that can reduce your chance of having a preterm birth, especially if you have had one in the past.

Preterm birth can be especially traumatic for those living in remote communities which is why in our guests on today’s podcast, Drs. Kirsten Duckitt and Jennifer Kask, developed a prevention of preterm birth pathway in Northern Vancouver Island that is spreading to other remote communities. They share with us a moving story of a pregnant individual from a remote community who had her baby in their hospital, and break down the definitions and rates of preterm birth, risks to mama and baby, and how they can be decreased.

    Episode 21: Chris Schlichting

    Episode 21: Chris Schlichting

Chris Schlichting makes people laugh for a living. Both on stage and in a high school classroom. However, sitting in a hospital for three months with one of this newborn twins clinging to life was anything but funny.

In this episode I talk with Chris about bombing on stage, awkward talks with his father-in-law, and the one joke his wife won’t let him tell anymore.

Described as “hilarious” by his mom and “not good at sports” by his dad, Chris Shlichting takes pride in his immature and lovable comedic style. He travels the country making people laugh, and has been heard on the Bob & Tom radio show (amongst other places). Chris’ act covers hard hitting issues like squirrels, sandwiches, and his twin boys.

Premature Birth the Medical Challenges Continue

Premature Birth the Medical Challenges Continue

    Sheila Scaro

A premature birth is a birth that takes place more than three weeks before the baby's estimated due date. In other words, a premature birth is one that occurs before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy. Premature babies, especially those born very early, often have complicated medical problems.  Sheila talks about some of the medical challenges her premie twins have faced during their first 7 yrs..  Sheila is still a stay-at-home-mom due to the chronic health conditions her twins continue to fight.  Never stopping to rest, she continues to find ways to help raise her family in-between tube feedings and doctors visits.

Born at 26.5 weeks gestation, she got the finest medical care available anywhere. But that almost didn't happen. And it clearly still wasn't enough.

Her arrival and survival was truly a Remarkable Adventure.

She practices the full breadth of women’s healthcare and strives to use shared decision making whenever possible. She is a supporter of VBAC and vaginal delivery of twins, and encourages her patients to use both Eastern and Western medicine to achieve their fertility goals. She also specializes in menopause.

Ep. 2: Interview with Daysha / Beautiful Birth Stories

Ep. 2: Interview with Daysha / Beautiful Birth Stories
In this week’s podcast, Daysha shares candidly about delivering two very pre-term baby boys and and the subsequent journey to adopting their daughter. I know you will be encouraged by the ways God took care of her family during very difficult circumstances.
Daysha said she held on dearly to Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope hope and assurance about what we do not see.” She knew she wanted to share their home and their hearts with one more child, and clung to hope during circumstances out of her control. Her story had some difficult days, weeks and months, but there is also so much beauty and redemption in it.
I hope you enjoy this interview and are encouraged to go out and live your uniquely beautiful story!
