 न्यू इन्फॉर्मेशन टेक्नोलॉजी (इंटरमीडियरी गाइडलाइंस एंड डिजिटल मीडिया एथिक्स कोड) एमेंडमेंट रूल्स, 2023 में यह कहा गया है कि प्रेस इन्फॉर्मेशन ब्यूरो के फैक्ट चेक यूनिट द्वारा ""फर्जी/फेक"" मानी जाने वाली किसी भी खबर को सभी प्लेटफार्मों से हटाना होगा, जिसमें सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म भी शामिल हैं. यानी की सरकारी फेक्ट चेक यूनिट जिसे फेक बोले उसे हमें फेक मानना होगा. सरकार के इसी फैसले को लेकर एडिटर्स गिल्ड ने सवाल उठाये है. 

In the rapidly growing information world, we often come across Fake news, misinformation and disinformation. There are efforts to tackle the menace of the fake news. But the question is who should be in charge of busting fake news? Who should get to decide what is and what isn't fake news? Well, the govt has now decided to constitute a fact checking unit with sweeping powers to determine what is fake or false news related to the business of central govt. Not only that it will also have the authority to order takedown to intermediaries. Additionally, the govt has decided to give more powers to the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to fact-check any 'fake, false or misleading' information about the central government. The move however has received a sharp criticism from media bodies, editors guild and internet freedom advocates. Let's understand what are these rules? What the critics are saying and what will be its impact?

After three days searching the BBC's offices in India, Indian tax authorities say they found evidence of unpaid taxes and undeclared income. Without naming the BBC, India's Finance Ministry says its tax inspectors have found ""crucial evidence"" showing ""discrepancies and inconsistencies"" in the tax declarations of ""a prominent international media company."" Press freedom advocates around the world have decried this week's raids on the BBC — in which journalists and accountants alike were questioned, and had their phones and laptops searched. बीबीसी के दफ्तर पर इनकम टैक्स डिपार्टमेंट के सर्वे पर अंतरराष्ट्रीय मीडिया मोदी वाली केंद्र सरकार पर जमकर बरस रही है. दुनिया के जाने माने न्यूज़ पेपर, वेबसाइट और टीवी चैनल इसे बदले की भावना बता रहे है. इन मीडिया हाउसेस ने अपनी रिपोर्ट में बताया है की मोदी सरकार मोदी पर बनाई गई बीबीसी की डाक्यूमेंट्री का बदला सरकार ले रही है. इस शो में आपको बताते है बीबीसी पर छापेमारी पर क्या कहना है अंतरराष्ट्रीय मीडिया का दुनिया भर के अखबार, मीडिया वॉचडॉग और मानवाधिकार संस्थाएं बीबीसी के ऑफिस पर छापेमारी की आलोचना कर रही हैं. इनका कहना है कि मोदी सरकार इस छापेमारी से बीबीसी को डराने की कोशिश कर रही है और यह अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता का उल्लंघन है. 

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी पर बनी बीबीसी की एक डॉक्यूमेंट्री की पूर्व न्यायाधीशों, पूर्व नौकरशाहों और पूर्व सैनिकों के एक समूह ने आलोचना की। उन्होंने डॉक्यूमेंट्री को एक देशभक्त के खिलाफ प्रेरित आरोप पत्र करार दिया है।
