Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....

And on today’s Dark enigma we’re going to be exploring another scary destination, since its summer and maybe you’re wondering how to spend that vacation time that’s piling up. So don’t fear, Nicole is here to give you plenty of destinations you can visit, most are just a car trip and a shot of liquid courage away. Anyway, as always, we will be playing our drinking game but only for those of you that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. And I know it’s been a little bit of time since I went looking for a cocktail for you, so this time, I found a very delicious and apropos selection that even the most discerning among you will be delighted with. Today’s shot of choice is called The Sultan, and you’ll find the recipe on proofcocktails.com. Now for our game part, every time I say mansion that will be a single shot and every time I say French Quarter, that’s a double shot. Now that we have the business end out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma…and the mystery of… the Sultan’s Palace.

When it comes to the many haunts of New Orleans, ghost enthusiasts are quick to point to the infamous LaLaurie Mansion as the French Quarter’s most notorious haunted spot. But, as it is with so many lesser-known haunted houses across the country, there are other places in the Crescent City that have tales that are just as sinister – and spirits that are just as restless.

The Gardette-Le Prete Mansion, which has been dubbed the “Sultan’s Palace” over the years, is one of the French Quarter’s most imposing buildings and has long had a leading role among the city’s bloodiest mysteries and legends. It earned its horrific reputation as the scene of violent bloodshed, rape, and murder – tragedies that still linger behind as a haunting.

Fisher opens the show with information about the Preserve the Pensions program which is seeking private funding to digitize and make available for free all War of 1812 pension files.  In Family Histoire news, Fisher tells of a woman who just turned 106, and you won’t believe her diet staples!  Also, blood from Winston Churchill is up for auction.  Catch the whole story of where it came from.  And, the Danish government and MyHeritage.com are releasing all kinds of “new” old records from Denmark.

In segment two, Lindsay Fulton, Genealogist from the New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston talks about the challenges of navigating the application process of major genealogical societies like the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.  Want to celebrate your ancestors in this way, or simply have your research validated by independent eyes?  Lindsay has some great tips.

Fisher then visits with Isabella Prete, who only started her research journey in the last couple years.  And she’s already begun having those experiences that only family historians have.  You won’t believe how a Scottish monk stepped in to connect her with living family back in the old country!

And Tom Perry is back with more on preservation.  That’s this week on Extreme Genes, America’s Family History Show!
