    The Maid by Nita Prose

    The Maid by Nita Prose

Wendy and Amy discuss The Maid by Nita Prose, a locked-room mystery with an intriguing cast of characters. We loved Molly, were repulsed by Rodney (one of us, anyway!), and enamored with the fabulous setting. Which characters got a kiss, a ring, or a knife through the heart this time? Pop a cork to one underestimated, but brilliant Maid!

    Book Club Questions Discussed:
Amy: How do you interpret the quote: "We all are the same in different ways?" & What is your favorite Gran quote?

    Wendy:
The book is purposefully vague about the city and country where the story takes place. Why do you think the author did that and where do you picture the story and why?

    Uniform as a symbol.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

Wendy and Amy put on their lab coats and dive into Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. They talk characters, resiliency, and just what that #2 pencil (might've) meant for Elizabeth Zott. Pop a cork to women who stand up for other women and themselves!

Toxic Pesticide article by Sarah Rainey:  Link

This episode has a SPOILER SUMMARY.

    Character Sketches
    Amy: Dr Donatti
    Wendy: Elizabeth Zott

    Book Club Questions Discussed:
    Amy:
Elizabeth is sometimes depressed by the circumstances in her life. Not coincidentally, her show airs in the “Afternoon Depression Zone.” And yet she’s never a victim. How does she continually pick herself up? What fuels her resilience? And why, after she’s reached stardom, is she more miserable than ever?

Wendy: Do you think author Garmus portrayed Elizabeth only as a strong, self-assured character, avoiding Elizabeth’s weaknesses?

Extra Question because we couldn't help it: Why does Elizabeth always wear a pencil in her hair? Is it a weapon or is it a symbol of strength?

    WINE MAKERS NOTES
Sparkling wine with pink “powder” color. It displays soft notes of red fruit to the nose, good acidity and freshness in the mouth. Very balanced fine wine. The sugar content is compensated by the acidity that makes the wine very fresh and enjoyable on the palate.

    Acinum Wines
Acinum is a collection of exquisite wines selected by Fabrizio Pedrolli in order to showcase the best Italian territories and wineries. The goal is to represent to the United States the authentic heritage of indigenous grapes that makes Italian wine unique to the world.

This selection starts from the historical wine areas of Veneto, Negrar in Valpolicella and Montforte d’Alpone in Soave. Fabrizio Pedrolli is proud to present these wines, that are the result of a successful collaboration with the family of Edoardo Montresor, who cultivate the grapes, and the oenological expertise of Enrico Paternoster.

Holiday Sparkling Wines #3: Brut Prosecco! (The most popular sparkling wine in the world, why brut rather than dry this Holiday season, where the name Prosecco came from)

Holiday Sparkling Wines #3: Brut Prosecco! (The most popular sparkling wine in the world, why brut rather than dry this Holiday season, where the name Prosecco came from)

Think you know Prosecco?!? Not so fast! We bet you didn’t know that most of the Prosecco you are drinking is on the sweet side. Who cares, you say? We love it no matter what, you say? In this episode we are going to tell you why you should care, and why you should be seeking out the BRUT Prosecco! You dig?!? We all know that the Holidays are made for celebrations, and celebrations are the perfect opportunity to pop open a bottle or two (or three or four) of Prosecco. But this year we are begging you, beseeching you, to take the extra minute to find the brut Prosecco, rather than the dry or extra dry. Why, pray tell, does it matter? Well, the sweeter Proseccos, while fun and tasty, often mask a lesser wine. The brut Proseccos don’t have as much sugar to mask the sometimes lower quality, and so you are getting a better sparkling wine experience. Seriously! We wouldn’t lie at this time of year. You think we want to end up on the Naughy List? Are you nuts?!? We also talk about why the name Prosecco and the name of the grape it’s made from called Glera are kind of recent inventions. But you’ll have to listen in to find out more. It’s like an early Holiday gift! Wines reviewed in this episode: Bisol Jeio Prosecco Brut, Zardetto Prosecco Brut, Le Colture Fagher Prosecco Superiore Brut.
