Words That Bring Light // Vera Schmitz

“For each of us—no matter who you are, no matter how mentally tough you are—there are things in our lives we are believing that are not true. Or maybe we need guidance in our life. And God’s Word is saying here in this verse, in Psalm 119:105, that his Word is the light and the lamp for our path.” — Vera Schmitz

This month’s memory verse: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Today’s podcast: We all know what darkness is—we know what it feels like and how we try to avoid it. The good news in our verse this month is that God’s Word is a lamp and a light, breaking through the darkness around us and in us, illuminating our path. In today’s episode, Vera shares about her struggle with anxiety and how the practice of “breathing Scripture” has helped her to memorize and meditate on truth to help her remember what God has said when her mind is spinning. He is faithful to bring light to our darkness through the truth of his Word, and we pray that as you memorize the Bible along with us, you will experience the light his Word brings as well!

How God’s Word Brought Light into the Darkest Season of My Life // Lauren McAfee

“To be able to look to Scripture in the dark times, and look to Christ in those dark seasons of my life, gave me hope that brought light into the darkness and really was just a foundation for me when it felt like the earth beneath me was shaken and shattering.” — Lauren McAfee

This month’s memory verse: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Today’s podcast: Have you ever walked through a season of darkness and longed for light? Today’s episode is a special one as we welcome back Dwell’s very first podcast guest, Lauren McAfee. She shares about how God’s Word has brought light in seasons of significant grief. We know you’ll be encouraged as you hear her passion for knowing God through his Word, what spending time in the Bible practically looks like for her, and how to discern which path to take when there is more than one good choice. We have one prayer for you (and us) this year: that we would be people who are in God’s Word—reading it, studying it, memorizing it, applying it, and letting it shape us—because it is from God himself and is for our flourishing as we come to know and love him more.

Today's Dwell guest: Lauren McAfee is a wife and mom who works at the Hobby Lobby corporate office and is currently pursuing a PhD in ethics. She is a speaker and an author, and is passionate about knowing and loving the Bible.

“We walk in a dark place. This is inherently saying that we need God’s Word to light the way. We are not the light—we need God to be the light, to shine a light on our path and to illuminate where it is we are supposed to go. We need God’s Word.” — Natalie Abbott

Psalm 119:105 Reading the Bible Impacts Our Life

Psalm 119:105 Reading the Bible Impacts Our Life

Reading the Bible and Psalm 119:105 reminds me that God’s word is personal, practical, and powerful. His word shines light onto our personal path to show our feet attached to our personal body the way to go. That is so powerful when God gives us a word that practically directs us in our personal lives. There is nothing like that, but we can’t experience that without reading the Bible.
