    #22 - My reaction to PTO - T100 Miami

In this solo podcast episode, I shares my thoughts and feedback on the PTO T100 Miami event. I emphasises that while he appreciates the PTO's efforts to improve triathlon, there is still a long way to go to achieve mainstream success. Matt discusses the need for better broadcast quality, engaging commentary, transparency in athletes' training, and the use of data to enhance the viewing experience. He also suggests improvements in the crowd atmosphere and preparation for night races. Overall, Matt believes that implementing these changes can make a significant difference in the future of triathlon.

    Takeaways

    • Improving broadcast quality and engaging commentary is crucial for triathlon to become mainstream.
    • Transparency in athletes' training and performance data can make the sport more relatable and engaging for viewers.
    • Utilising data, such as power output and speed, can enhance the viewing experience and provide more insights into athletes' performances.
    • Commentators should receive training and practice to improve their skills and deliver a polished and engaging commentary.
    • Creating a vibrant crowd atmosphere and conducting tests for night races can enhance the overall experience for both athletes and viewers.

    ESCAPE

    ESCAPE

In this episode, I dive deep into the island oasis that is the "Pina Colada Song" (you know the one!) and explore why it's one of the best-known yet worst songs ever written. I dissect the hilarious and questionable lyrics of this iconic tune that we all can't help but sing along to - morals be damned!

The song's horrible story of potentially cheating partners did get me thinking about the idea of what my perfect "escape" would look like if I had any vacation time left whatsoever this year. I'm all out of PTO, and maybe some of you are in the same boat. So, let's ponder what the perfect getaway would look like, one where you can truly recharge without feeling the pressure to tick off tourist attractions.

For me, immersive video games like World of Warcraft and EVE Online are a form of escapism from the stresses of daily life. It's essential to find ways to disconnect and find solace in a world where you call the shots, even if it means vanquishing hordes of NPCs or embarking on epic space adventures.

Oh - and do me a favor and tell a friend or two about this podcast!  It literally costs you nothing and would mean a great deal to me.  SO DO IT!

The Importance of Taking Breaks (#156)

    The Importance of Taking Breaks
Taking breaks is essential. Seems obvious, right? But many of us deny ourselves breaks for a number of reasons. However, no reason can justify the long-term effects of putting off rest.

In today's episode, we're going to delve into the importance of taking breaks; how to break effectively, why it's beneficial for your physical and mental health, and I'll even share a personal story of how a much-needed vacation helped me shift my perspective.

    Chapters
    [02:09]
There are different kinds of breaks. Long breaks vs short breaks.

    [03:36]
You shouldn't "power through" your breaks. You should be taking a small 5-10 minute break after every 2 hours of consecutive work.

    [05:09]
I share a personal example of why breaks are so important.

    [08:02]
How stressful is your work day? How do you manage your stress?

    [10:34]
What do you feel is missing from your work/life balance?

    [12:05]
Here are some types to help you combat some of the stressors you face.

12: Breaking Down Business Buzzwords and Practices with Tiffany Castagno

In today’s episode of Transmit Safety, Aimee is chatting with Tiffany Castagno about business, buzzwords, culture, and much more.

There are so many things in the business world that companies adopt because it’s something “the cool kids are doing” or their fear of missing out.

What they don’t always stop to consider, though, is what that means for their organization and if the policies and processes they develop or the values they say they stand for actually align and work with the company’s culture.

So, join me and Tiffany Castagno, the CEO and founder of the Human Resources consulting firm CEPHR, LLC, as we discuss what’s really behind business buzzwords such as “P.T.O.”, “employee engagement”, and “safety culture”, as well as how to build strong teams and a strong employer brand and culture.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • The truth about P.T.O.
    • The key role of the onboarding process
    • Employee engagement is not just a buzzword
    • The importance of breaking down the silos between professions
    • Legacy and Impactful leadership
    • Nurturing a strong brand and culture
    • Developing (and updating) aligned policies and procedures

The Transmit Safety Podcast is here to help health and safety practitioners achieve a holistic approach to workplace health and safety so they can become impactful leaders and put the value of safety into action.
