    Good riddance to bad governance

    Good riddance to bad governance

Could the average citizen become more involved in the process of developing solutions to problems that affect them? Yes! But well before that, maybe we need to do a better job of understanding the nuances of these problems and articulating them to policy decision makers. In this episode of ATP, join Kripa Koshy (Programme Manager, Takshashila) and Anirudh Dinesh (Research Fellow, Burnes Centre for Social Change and GovLab affiliated with Northeastern University) as they discuss old and new ways of citizen-engagement for more effective governance and policy making.

    S2E10 Save Ash Meadows!

    S2E10 Save Ash Meadows!

Mason Voehl from the Amargosa Conservancy joins hosts Chris Clarke and Alicia Pike to discuss the threat posed by a Canadian mining company's plans to conduct exploratory drilling for lithium near the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in Nevada. The drilling could potentially puncture the aquifer and cause catastrophic damage to the fragile ecosystem. The hosts highlight the conflict between the need for renewable energy and the preservation of biodiversity, and call for public support to protect Ash Meadows. They provide a petition and encourage donations to the Amargosa Conservancy to help in the fight.

#5 Going Green – How the Public Is Affecting the Coming Energy Transition

#5 Going Green – How the Public Is Affecting the Coming Energy Transition
Transitioning to a clean economy which relies on renewable, or carbon-free electricity generation is essential for avoiding the worst of climate change. But what role does the public play in this transformation, and what forms of participation do ordinary citizens have at their disposal to take part?

That’s what Jake Barnes and Sabine Hielscher looked at in their joint research project called “Public Participation for Energy Transitions.” In our conversation about their seed-funded project, we discuss why public participation is valuable when it comes to the current energy transition, the myriad forms such participation can take, and the opportunities and challenges that may come from the current energy crisis facing Europe.

With Dr. Jake Barnes, Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford, and Dr. Sabine Hielscher, Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsforschung (IÖW).
