Podcast: Grammar school places in Kent being offered to children from as far away as Buckinghamshire

Figures obtained by the KentOnline Podcast show children from as far away as Buckinghamshire  are being offered places at grammar schools in Kent.

It's sparked outrage from parents in the county who say local pupils are being overlooked. We've been speaking to an education advisor.

Also in today's podcast, a hosepipe ban for parts of Kent can be enforced from today as hot temperatures create more demand for drinking water.

South East Water has put restrictions on watering gardens, washing cars and filling paddling pools  and fines of £1,000 can now be issued for breaking the rules.

Next today, and police could be asked to patrol outside schools in Kent to crackdown on harassment and bullying.

It's after a survey of young people found it had happened to one in four students - with some experiencing sexual comments or racism.

A Kent mum who fears her young twins aren't developing as they should, says she feels frustrated and angry over a lack of NHS appointments.

Sarah Johnson from Meopham had Iris and Astrid in 2021 and first raised concerns when they were approaching their first birthday.

In sport, hear from Kent's Tammy Beaumont who made history for England over the weekend.

Plus, in football, the Gillingham boss has been chatting ahead of his players returning to training this weekend.

Virginia Walden Ford | Future of America's Education | A Pioneer of the School Choice Movement | "Miss Virginia" — Feature Film

Virginia Walden Ford | Future of America's Education | A Pioneer of the School Choice Movement | "Miss Virginia" — Feature Film
America's Roundtable, co-hosts Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy are joined by Virginia Walden Ford, a pioneer of America's school choice movement and a patriotic leader transforming our nation's educational system. Few leaders in our time have risked so much to boldly stand for principles and counter the wave of strong opposition brought forth by politicians in our nation's capital, lobbyists and the powerful teacher unions. Virginia Walden Ford's inspiring journey and her principled leadership is paving the way for new states to embrace school choice and empower parents. Her message will inspire audiences, and in fact, her story is shared through a feature film titled "Miss Virginia.” "Miss Virginia" is a major motion picture starring Uzo Aduba, Matthew Modine, Niles Fitch, Vanessa Williams, and a spectacular ensemble cast. Watch Miss Virginia on Netflix, iTunes or Amazon today. The Reason magazine writes: “The new movie Miss Virginia is based on the unlikely story of Virginia Walden Ford, who, as a single mother in Washington, D.C., in the early 2000s, fought to create a federally-funded private school voucher program that would allow poor kids—including her son—to escape failing public schools. Against long odds and institutional hostility, she succeeded and is played with fiery passion by Orange Is the New Black's Uzo Aduba. Matthew Modine, known for roles in Full Metal Jacket, Weeds, and Stranger Things, co-stars as a sympathetic congressman who helps win congressional authorization for the program.” https://ileaderssummit.org/services/americas-roundtable-radio/ https://ileaderssummit.org/ | https://jerusalemleaderssummit.com/ America's Roundtable on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/americas-roundtable/id1518878472 Twitter: @ileaderssummit @NatashaSrdoc @JoelAnandUSA America's Roundtable is co-hosted by Natasha Srdoc and Joel Anand Samy, co-founders of International Leaders Summit and the Jerusalem Leaders Summit. Charlotte Mason, Languages Teacher & Connecting Forces Group Lead

Meet Charlotte, she’s joint-Head of Languages at a secondary school in Portsmouth. We catch-up with her just before her husband goes back to sea with the Royal Navy and hear about the importance of having her own identity and career, whilst being proud to be a military wife.

As a mum to three kids under ten, she’s been home-schooling through Lockdown as well as supporting the children of key workers still attending school. As Lockdown restrictions are changing, we hear about re-organising the school to enable reopening with social distancing.

In addition to teaching, Charlotte set-up the ‘Connecting Forces’ support network and after school club for Service kids, with which Company of Makers ran sewing workshops a while back, linking-up with The Sewing Soldier’s ‘Flags of Thanks’ nationwide project to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

We also find out how the military lifestyle and separation affects family life, with deployments and ‘weekending’. With 1,000+ Service kids at school locally, Charlotte aspires to extending Connecting Forces across Portsmouth and beyond; with Service kids offering peer support and sharing their resilience and ability to adapt.
