    2. Closing the Purpose Gap

    2. Closing the Purpose Gap

Is your business experiencing the ‘purpose gap’? In this episode, we're exploring the space between what a brand says is their purpose and what a brand does to take action around their purpose. We're also delving into some of the most common reasons for this gap.

Part 1. In first part of the episode, we look at the research. We explore two different studies, each citing a considerable difference in how employees and consumer perceive the value of purpose and what companies are doing to activate their purpose.  Below are two key metrics discussed in the episode.

    • 82% of employees surveyed reported that it is important for a company to have a defined purpose statement. Only 42% believed their organization’s purpose statement drives impact. (McKinsey, 2019)
    • 94% of consumers believe companies should have a strong purpose; only 34% believe most companies actually do. (Zeno Group, 2020)

Part 2:  Then, we look at the reasons why this gap exists. Karen explains some of the common challenges  companies face when it comes to defining their purpose and using it to create meaningful impact.

Part 3: In the last part of the episode, we look at different ways business leaders can close the gap between what they say and what they do. Karen offers some specific steps leaders can take to better align their business around its purpose.

You can learn more about the 'purpose gap' at our blog: Alignd on Purpose
