Bonus Episode: Bill Wasik and Monica Murphy talk Rabies

Bonus Episode: Bill Wasik and Monica Murphy talk Rabies

Many of us vividly remembered Their Eyes Were Watching God as the book where a person gets rabies and is shot. Tea Cake's demise left us with so many questions so Hannah consulted experts Bill Wasik and Monica Murphy, the authors of Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus. They gave us such a fascinating interview that we couldn't bear to cut any of it to fit it into the main episode. We present the interview in its entirety here for your listening pleasure (or discomfort depending on how you feel about rabies).

Episode 3: Jeanna Geise - Rabies

Episode 3: Jeanna Geise - Rabies

One Sunday morning Jeanna was attending church with her mother when she was bitten by a rabid bat. Not aware that it was rabid Jeanna did not seek further medical treatment.

One month later she started to show symptoms of rabies. Until 2004 rabies was known to be 100% fatal to humans.

Dr. Rodney Willoughby stepped up to the plate and saved Jeannas life. Making her the first ever unvaccinated survivor of rabies.

Join us and find out what happened to Jeanna and where she is today.

We also reached out to Jeanna and asked if she had an organisation that was close to her heart. Naturally this passionate woman has given us a place we encourage you to check out. They are Whisper Hill Clydesdales Special Needs. They are committed to providing individuals the opportunity to reach their full potential through personal growth and fulfilment with the aid of horses and farm animals.

Click the link below to go to their Facebook page. The are a non profit organisation and rely on donations and volunteers; please donate if you feel so inclined.

They got Jeanna into animal therapy and she is close with them today.

Episode 66(6): The Soska Sisters, RABID, and the State of Horror as We Know It!

Episode 66(6): The Soska Sisters, RABID, and the State of Horror as We Know It!

The Soska Sisters are absolute queens of scary, creepy, and gory. They’re producers, directors, writers, and actresses from Canada that launched their career with Dead Hooker in a Trunk, gave us some wonderfully impressive body horror with American Mary, have written several things for Marvel, including the recent Black Widow series, No Restraints Play, which is illustrated by Flaviano - who was kind enough to lend us some incredible artwork for this episode, they have a survival horror gameshow called Hellevator, and are about to release a remake of the scifi body horror Cronenberg movie, Rabid.

They sat down with us to talk with us about all those things that go bump in the night, keeping women in horror uplifted, and to share their encyclopedic knowledge of horror with us in the most entertaining way possible!

Episode 11: Found Footage (Tell Me You Got That!)

Episode 11: Found Footage (Tell Me You Got That!)

Recorded on the 20th anniversary day of the theatrical release of The Blair Witch Project, it's only fair that Jordan and JB dive into the world of "found footage" horror.  We talk why it works, why it can be effective, and the history of our culture's recent obsession with the medium.  We also talk IT Chapter 2, the Soska sisters "Rabid" Twitter ban and tell our first real life scary story! Bloody Hero of the Week goes to Blair Witch Project director Eduardo Sanchez.
