The Long Journey of Justice. Meet the man, Thien Ho who successfully prosecuted The Golden State Killer/East Side Rapists, Joseph DeAngelo and is now running for top DA in Sacramento, California

In this episode, I’m talking with Thien  Ho, who successfully prosecuted serial killer and rapist, Joseph DeAngelo, known as The Golden State Killer/East Side Rapist. DeAngelo had escaped justice for 30 years leaving in his wake, dead, murdered, and raped girls, women, children, and men. He is now running for top DA, Sacramento, California. Find out how the victims of The Golden State Killer/Eastside Rapists got justice! And how others, didn’t get justice because of the running of the statute of limitations.

Thien had a long path to justice. At just 4 years old he and his family escaped the Communists in Vietnam, on a rickety fishing boat, risking death, torture, and capture finally landing in a refugee camp with nothing but the clothes on their back.

As a lead prosecutor for Sacramento County, Mr. Ho successfully prosecuted the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer and secured a sentence of 12 life terms that ensure the disgraced former police officer will die inside a California prison.,  DeAngelo is one of the nation’s most prolific and notorious serial killers who committed 13 murders and over 50 sexual assaults in 11 different jurisdictions throughout California.

This case has been the focus of HBO’s docuseries, I’ll be Gone in the Dark The case has also been featured on CNN, 20/20, and countless news outlets across the world.

Additionally, Thien Ho has supervised the Gangs and Hate Crime Unit and was a panelist for an Asian hate crime discussion sponsored by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA).

As a member of the Legislative Committee for the California District Attorneys Association, Mr. Ho has analyzed pending bills and advocated on legislative matters for California.

He has drafted legislation to prosecute and get justice for victims of Sexually Violent Predators and has testified before the California Assembly regarding pending bills.

Now, the 47-year-old Democrat and lifelong prosecutor has announced he is running to succeed Sacramento District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, who is a candidate for State Attorney General (filling Kamala Harris’ seat before Harris ran for the US Senate in California).

Thien Ho is all about truth, and justice. One of his main platforms as a candidate for Sacramento District Attorney is justice for victims of child sexual abuse, rape, and sexual assault.

    Episode 33: Catastrophizing

    Episode 33: Catastrophizing

Sometimes we take our situation, internalize it and torture ourselves with the worst possible outcome. This is catastrophizing. We do this in order to prepare ourselves for what may happen when we are not in control during our most vulnerable times. I am sharing two scenarios of people that have anonymously shared their stories with the hopes of healing the masses. Life is a beautiful thing when it is lived, not when you succumb to the fear of the "what if". Know that God loves you, has a plan for you, and wants to build you to get to your purpose. Trust me, I have catastrophized in the past to the point it has made me sick. I don't want you to experience that, so please join me in understanding and embracing the fight against catastrophizing.

    37. Alan Manwaring: Revisiting Perspectives on His Healing Path

    37. Alan Manwaring: Revisiting Perspectives on His Healing Path
    37. Alan Manwaring: Revisiting Perspectives on His Healing Path Back in early April, I introduced you to my good friend, Alan Manwaring. He was my guest on Episode 26. Alan is not only my good friend, but he is also a mutual friend of Jan Broberg, and in fact, is Executive Director of The Jan Broberg Foundation! So, Alan and I work together on that board, but we also have many aspects of our lives with which we share several commonalities. Another one of our commonalities is that we both have had experiences of having been sexually assaulted. It was that commonality that I believe drew us together initially in our early friendship, and it has bonded us on several levels as we share with each other our personal trauma stories. (If you haven’t listened to Episode 26, it would probably be enlightening for this episode.) In this week’s episode, Alan and I pick up where we left off with that previous episode, and we discuss Alan’s continuing obstacles and hurdles on his healing path. Alan and I share some of the same obstacles and hurdles. And I think you’ll find that all of us who are on that same healing path, have many of the same obstacles and hurdles. It’s why this podcast is growing. We’re helping each other on that same healing path. This episode is short, but power-packed; I think you’ll find it inspiring and helpful. Remember, if you're a victim or survivor of rape, sexual assault, or any form of interpersonal violence, and would like to be a guest on our show, please email me; let's have a conversation about the possibility. How Safe are we: Who can we Believe?

How Safe are we: Who can we Believe?

Crime and disorder are out of control and polliticians claim it's only perception.  Who can we believe?  Three seasoned cops pull no punches discussing violence, fear and disorder in New York City.  The numbers show that murder, rape, robbery, assaults and theft are on the rise but the numbers don't tell the whole story.  Petty crimes , homelessness and the mentally ill on our streets and in the subway add to the feeling of chaos.  Police continue to make arrests and the criminals are released by prosecutors who tip the scales of justice in favor of criminals and against victims.  Has bail reform rendered the criminal justice system ineffective?  You decide...

Today’s show is part of a series called Home. Writing Class Radio helped produce a documentary to help end homelessness for Chapman Partnership, a homeless center in South Florida. We put out a public call for submissions for stories about home. The call brought so many different and fascinating takes. Thank you to all the people who submitted stories.

In our series, you’ll hear a story about a woman who is torn between two homes, a man who finds home through love with a woman while he’s dealing with addiction, and a woman who finds home in another country less racially divided.

Today’s story by Mary Ann Parker is about feeling at home in your skin. Trigger warning: This story contains strong language and images and is not appropriate for children. Sexual violence is discussed.

Mary’s story shows how to expertly plant seeds, which is a way to drop hints and lead your reader to your conclusion.
