Ep 2: How Raya and the Last Dragon Explores Unity

Ep 2: How Raya and the Last Dragon Explores Unity

2020 and 2021 were years that will sadly be categorized by hate, division, and distrust. In Disney's 2021 fantasy movie Raya and the Last Dragon, the creative team tackled a huge and very relevant set of questions: What breeds distrust? What does it take to overcome personal wounds? How do we truly bring people deeply at odds back together? Using the film's questions for inspiration, Josh and Femi also ask: In 2021 America, how can we as Christians be forces for unity while not compromising Biblical truth?

Film & TV Reviews with Sandie Angulo Chen of Common Sense Media

Film & TV Reviews with Sandie Angulo Chen of Common Sense Media

Do the phrases “feel good movie” and “rape culture” ever belong together?

In this episode of The Soul of Life I speak again with Sandie Angulo Chen, a film critic and writer for Common Sense Media, about several new films and shows that handle some fairly radioactive cultural themes, like the Amy Pohler-directed Moxie, and Promising Young Woman.

Then Sandie and I totally shift gears, into sci-fi escapism, to talk about the new Marvel Universe series on Disney+, WandaVision.

We talk about several other noteworthy series like Boy’s State, a documentary about the Texas chapter of this national civic education group for teens across the U.S.

Sandie reviews Raya and the Last Dragon, and we talk about the 2021 Oscar nominations, Judas and the Black Messiah, and some films Sandie thinks got snubbed.

Season 02, Episode 12: Is “Rya and the Last Dragon” “Art by Committee”?

Plan on having a family movie night soon? Although “Rya and the Last Dragon” is a visually spectacular movie, you shouldn’t put it first on your “to watch” list.

In this episode of Out of Frame: Behind the Scenes, Sean, Paul, and Jen discuss the latest Disney+ original and how it falls short of his potential. Why did the movie need so many writers? Why does it feel like “art by committee?” Is Paul secretly bitter that he’ll never be a real dragon? Watch the episode for all this and more.

Episode 135: - Raya and the Last Dragon & L.A. Confidential
Disney's new animated film 'Raya and the Last Dragon' is now available at home and in theaters, but is the $30 premium price tag worth the cost of in-home admission? Also, the streets of Los Angeles may not be quite the same as they were twenty years ago, so how's a noire classic like L.A. Confidential hold up in 2021? Finally, the 2021 Oscar Nominations are live and we've got hot takes about them!

S1 E65: Bubba Visits Jekyll Island, GA

Episode 65 of the Travels With Randy Podcast is here!

Well, well, well...it's finally Bubba's turn to talk about a trip instead of Randy.  Mrs. Bubba surprised the whole family last weekend with a trip to Jekyll Island, GA and it was glorious:  the beach, long bike rides, seafood galore, beautiful scenery, and not many other people around.  Jekyll Island was a delight!

Randy and Bubba then babble their way through the usual shenanigans.  They talk about COVID, the federal stimulus package, going (or not going) back to school, how well the vaccine is doing, and the repercussions of social media on all of our lives.

They end with a spoiler-free discussion of Wandavision, and Bubba briefly discusses Chaos Walking and Raya And The Last Dragon.

By request, next week Bubba will gather all the kiddies by the fire and tell the incredible tale of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and NFT's. Can't wait!
