72: This Is A Bit Embarrassing… (books we’ve never read)

Louise and Virginia thought it might be fun to do an episode on books that they feel a bit embarrassed to have never read (until now). There were a lot of books to choose from, but they discuss four in this conversation.

During this chat they also create an Ick Register for authors who use words that give the ick, so that readers can be warned in advance (kind of like a trigger warning, but more basic).

Episode 40: Travis Baldree, author of Legends and Lattes

Episode 40: Travis Baldree, author of Legends and Lattes

Today's episode is a fantastic conversation with overnight cosy fantasy success and all-round nice guy, Travis Baldree. This is a great, rambling chat. We talk about Travis's arc from writing Legends and Lattes for NaNoWriMo to it becoming an international mega-hit, how focusing on the small things in life is important and everything in between.

This is an excellent conversation with an author who has had multiple successful careers while still keeping his feet firmly on the ground. The fact that it's a whole lot of fun too is an added bonus!

Travis's next novel, Bookshops and Bonedust is coming out on the 9th of November 2023 and is a must-read. You can learn more at https://www.travisbaldree.com/

New Release Feature Author: Kerryn Mayne with Guest Host Rae Cairns

New Release Feature Author: Kerryn Mayne with Guest Host Rae Cairns

Thriller author and guest host Rae Cairns chats to debut author Kerryn Mayne about her new release Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder

Kerryn is an author, former wedding photographer, current police officer and terrible (but enthusiastic) tennis player. When not at work attempting to solve crime, she is writing about it or preparing an endless stream of snacks for her four children. Kerryn lives in the bayside suburbs of Melbourne with her husband, children and a highly suspect lovebird. She only owns 11 copies of The Hobbit (for now).

Rae Cairns writes crime with heart: thrillers featuring everyday people facing extraordinary circumstances. Her debut novel The Good Mother was shortlisted for Best Debut Crime Fiction in the 2021 Ned Kelly Awards and longlisted for the 2021 Sisters in Crime Davitt Awards. Dying to Know, Rae’s second novel, is a standalone Sydney based thriller and centres around a woman’s determination to uncover what happened to her missing sister.

Kerryn shares the inspiration for Lenny Marks, her path to publication and more as she and Rae chat on the Writes4Women Convo Couch.
