    Flashpoints in the US-China Relationship

    Flashpoints in the US-China Relationship

Many books about US-China strategic competition have been published in recent years. This episode will focus on Facing China: The Prospect for War and Peace, which examines various flashpoints in the Indo-Pacific that could result in military conflict.

There are several reasons why this book stands out: First, it includes an examination of debates within China about China’s national interests; Second, it focuses not only on the challenges of major wars, but also on China’s gray-zone strategy of deliberately pursuing its interests in ways that stay below the threshold that would trigger a US military response. And finally, it assesses the applicability of the Thucydides Trap to the US-China relationship. The Thucydides Trap concept was coined by Graham Allison who examined historical cases in which a rising power threatened to displace a ruling power in his book Destined for War: Can America and China Escape Thucydides’s Trap? Allison concluded that in the majority of historical cases the outcome was war.

This book is especially interesting because it is written by a European expert who has deep knowledge of Taiwan, mainland China, and the United States: Jean-Pierre Cabestan. He is an emeritus senior researcher at the French Center for Scientific Research in Paris and an emeritus professor political science at the Department of Government and International Studies at Hone Kong Baptist University, and a visiting senior fellow at GMF.

EP #03: Shani Nicole | Spiritual Advocacy with The Empath Realist

EP #03: Shani Nicole | Spiritual Advocacy with The Empath Realist

In this episode, we explore the intersection of spirituality and advocacy with Shani Nicole, The Empath Realist. Through her own inner work, integrating shadows, generational and cultural trauma, Shani has built a platform to help others deepen into their spiritual practice in order to come to advocacy work from a healed, centered, and grounded place. Through healing, we embody the change that we seek to create in the world.

Shani is an Artist, Educator, a Creative Consultant, Public Speaker, Spiritual Coach, and Writer and creator of "The Empathic Realist,” a platform to find avenues and access to collective healing and re-education for all oppressed communities around the globe, where she challenges & critiques systems and ideologies through critical thinking, scholarly research, intuitive guidance and by interacting with communities across the globe. These practices allow her to hold space for downloading unbiased opinions by looking through an empathic, compassionate, & humanist lens, in order to uncover the root issues and failures across societies; on a local, national and international basis. As issues / causes are discovered, she uses a variety of creative methods to express them: music, education, poetry / spoken word, ancient healing modalities / practices,  and engaging in soulful conversations with others; paving the way for a collective space that approaches solutions in a more spiritual, harmonious, and decolonized way.

    Episode Wisdom:

    • Inner healing is necessary to call our injustices forward, create cross racial and cultural solidarity, and to create from a  place of possibilities.
    • Being able to see things from an unbias lens requires us to dig deep and heal ancestral, cultural, and personal trauma in ourselves first
    • Coming to advocacy from a place of wholeness - we need to heal the injustices, the identities in ourselves first
    • Love and light or enlightenment when you can see the shadows of society
    • Colonialism / capitalism = cultural shadows
    • We have been forced to be compartmentalized and through that, we lost the true essence of the human self - because we are all so stuck in the constructs of our identities
    • Connecting the spiritual with the material - Fusing these two together gives a deeper understanding of what is going on in the world and you can see that changes is possible - get connected to the roots of change
