232 | Why You Should Patiently Scale Your Business | with Scott Crumrine

Scott Crumrine is the co-founder and CEO of Guava Family, a high-performance design company creating baby gear that treats parenting like the extreme sport that it is.

Previously a designer for Motion Water Sports with a specialty in wakeboard design, Scott found parents in his life frustrated with the poor performance of strollers and other family gear.

Before even becoming a parent himself, Scott teamed up with fellow designers Asa Giffin and Reed Schmidt in 2009 to bring Guava Family to life with the mission to make gear more efficient, simple, and elegant to meet their needs and the needs of people like them, particularly those with active lifestyles.

Guava Family's products are loved by active parents across the country, and have received prestigious innovations awards such as TIME Best Inventions, Fast Company's Innovation by Design, and a Red Dot.

Scott holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS Mechanical Engineering from Santa Clara University.

He holds several patents in the Action Sports and Juvenile Products industry.

He lives with his wife and 3 kids in Carlsbad, CA where, when not working, he loves spending time in the ocean, and teaching his little ones to surf and ski.

#10MinuteTalk - Red Dots on Turkey Guns

Maximize your shotgun’s pellet-slinging performance by adding a red dot sight. It’s fast, easy, and relatively inexpensive. Mounting solutions, extending effective range, better sight picture, increased accuracy (even from awkward positions), are just a few of the advantages. And if you’re a “one shotgun to do it all” type of person – have no fear. Taking the sight off for your waterfowl and upland pursuits is a snap.

Uwe Melichar | Increase Value, Decrease Waste | E20

Uwe Melichar | Increase Value, Decrease Waste | E20

Why do brands struggle with sustainability? Uwe Melichar is a German sustainable packaging design expert, president of the European Brand & Packaging Design Association, and a long-standing member of the Red Dot jury.

Uwe is focused on sustainable packaging solutions for international brands. Together with his team at MELICHAR Bros., he develops packaging and communication design for clients in Japan, Russia, China, the USA, and various European countries.

In this episode, we discuss what "sustainable packaging" should be. We reflect on how to help consumer brands in the transition to a circular economy model. Finally, we understand why the word 'waste' needs to disappear from our vocabulary as soon as possible.

Before founding MELICHAR Bros. in 2020, he led the packaging division at the brand agency FACTOR for over 25 years, where he developed packaging projects for Adidas, Bosch, C&A, Huawei, Gardena, Omron, and Miele.

Uwe is also a lecturer at several universities, such as the University of Augsburg, a jury at the Pentawards, and a member of the Type Directors Club New York.

Ep. 164 | LPVO, Red Dot, or Prism for your AR?

Ep. 164 | LPVO, Red Dot, or Prism for your AR?

Looking for an optic for your AR? Maybe you already have one set up, but you’re curious about the other options and what makes them so special? Jimmy and Mark sat down with Reuben and Adam, our in-house AR junkies, to talk all about red dots, magnifiers, prism scopes, LPVO’s, offset red dots, etc. What’s so special about each one of these categories? Why would someone want to pick one over the other? Does one option reign supreme as the best overall way to go? Are any of them potentially just outdated at this point?? We also get the chance to talk about some brand new optics in our lineup with the SPARC Solar red dot and the Gen II Spitfire HD prism scopes. Tune in to find out!

    #10MinuteTalk - All About Co-Witnessing

    #10MinuteTalk - All About Co-Witnessing

We see a lot of misinformation/confusion on the interwebs about co-witnessing red dots and holographic sights with the iron sights on AR’s or pistols. Are you supposed to line up your red dot with your irons? Can you use your irons to sight in your red dot? What’s the point of co-witnessing in the first place and how important is it really? Rob Morell joins Jimmy and Mark in this episode to debunk some myths we’ve seen about this topic!

Ep. 119 | Red Dots on Turkey Guns. The answer is Yes!

Ep. 119 | Red Dots on Turkey Guns. The answer is Yes!

We have red dot sights, a big old Tom has a red head. Coincidence  - We think not. Today’s modern shotguns, turkey loads and choke tubes make mounting a red dot sight to your gobbler-getter more practical than ever – and just might make your rig more effective than ever! And it’s really not that hard! There’s more than one way to mount your dot, and we go through those methods. And if you have a do-all shotgun for all your hunting applications, mounting your dot and taking it off depending on your upcoming hunt, just ain’t that big a deal. Not only is a red dot sight “parallax-free,” letting shooters get their shot payload downrange to its intended recipient no madder how awkward your cheek weld or shooting position, but they provide a finer aiming point, as well as don’t obscure your target  - particularly at  longer ranges. Fast and easy, put the dot on the thing and pull the thing. Toward the end we chat through magnified optics on shotguns for big game and turkeys and Ryan hucks out a sighting-in Pro-Tip that will save you $$$! Outfit your turkey gun with a red dot and take a hung up gobbler – and hang his hooks on a limb.

#10MinuteTalk – Magnifiers for Red Dots

Rob Morell from our Product Development team joins Jimmy and Mark once again to give us the 10 minute crash course in magnifiers for red dots. In the wake of our fresh Micro 3x Magnifier release, we ask Rob some of the technical questions behind magnifiers, what they are, how they work and what’s so special about this new Micro 3x? A few misconceptions even get debunked in this short amount of time. Want more magnifier conversation? Let us know! Maybe these deserve a full episode, too?
