Pizza to Platform: How Red’s Savoy Pizza Leverages Mobile to Bolster Brand Loyalty with CEO Reed Daniels

Pizza to Platform: How Red’s Savoy Pizza Leverages Mobile to Bolster Brand Loyalty with CEO Reed Daniels

Today’s guest is Reed Daniels, the president and CEO of Red's Savoy Pizza, a local Minnesota Pizza Restaurant known for its ‘Sota-style recipe. With over a decade of involvement in the business, Reed has a rich understanding of the industry, having acquired the brand in 2019 after holding positions as Director of Marketing and President.

Red's Savoy Pizza has a storied history, beginning as a neighborhood joint and transforming into an entity with 19 units and growing. Reed attributes this colossal growth to building a solid marketing structure that introduced online ordering, gift cards, and a loyalty program.

The conversation highlights critical moments for businesses and the importance of leadership in navigating these periods. Talking about his experience during the government shutdown due to the pandemic, Reed emphasizes the importance of standing steadfast instead of giving in to panic. He identifies a company's ability to evolve its technological tools to enhance customer experience as crucial to staying relevant and successful in today's business environment. His practical example relates to the introduction of their app and how to evolve it from simply a rewards program app to an integrated tool that enhances customer experience.

    Guest Bio

Reed Daniels is a proficient marketing professional and the President and CEO of Red's Savoy Pizza, an iconic pizza brand with over 19 locations. Throughout his career, Reed has focused on combining his invaluable marketing expertise with his passion for driving customer engagement.

Since 2012, he has worked tirelessly to optimize Red's Savoy Pizza's branding, maximize customer loyalty, and bridge the gap between the digital and the physical. By achieving these objectives, Reed has successfully earned Red's Savoy Pizza a place on patrons' favorite lists.

Reed is also a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan and an avid consumer of technology services. Reed finds joy in using tech to enhance daily living, work operations, and customer experience, particularly through apps.

    Guest Quote

“We designed the program called ‘Thank You Awards.’ We could say thank you for choosing us: ‘Here's a free cheese bread, here's wings.’ Kind of like an insider club, and it reminded me of back to our original location where it's like a lot of bars take care of the regulars, right? And that's a way for businesses to know, and appreciate, and think of the regulars.” – Reed Daniels

Reid Hoffman — AI, and What It Means to Be (More) Human

Reid Hoffman — AI, and What It Means to Be (More) Human

In this season of On Being and those to come, we are going to train the core human questions on the emerging “generative AI.” Beyond the hype and the doom, what is this new technology calling us to as human beings? What is our agency to shape it to human purpose, and how might it bring us — literally — to our senses? This inaugural conversation with Reid Hoffman is a wide and deep beginning foundation. He and Krista venture into unexpectedly relevant places, like the nature of friendship in human life, and what it would mean to create “contained, boundaried AI” — and Reid's use of words like “delightful” and “elevating” as qualities we can impart to this technology which, as we're hearing again and again, is going to change everything.

Reid Hoffman is co-founder and former executive chairman of LinkedIn, and a partner at the venture capital firm Greylock Partners. He's known by some as the philosopher of Silicon Valley. He is currently on the board of Microsoft and was an early investor in OpenAI, which brought ChatGPT into the world. His latest book, which he co-wrote together with GPT-4, is Impromptu: Amplifying Our Humanity Through AI. His newest venture is Inflection AI, the creator of Pi — “a supportive and empathetic conversational AI.” He is a host on the podcasts Masters of Scale, Greymatter, and Possible, which will launch its second season this fall.

    From Here to Eternity (1953)

    From Here to Eternity (1953)

SEVENTY years ago this movie dominated Hollywood and the Academy Awards.  It is a drama disguised as a war film.  From Here to Eternity is a movie that took home a boatload of Oscars back in 1953.  All the performances are incredible and the direction, editing, and cinematography is first rate.   But it's the story that really pulls you in.  The question is did it deserve to win best picture that year.  Were the other four nominees as goo, or even better.  Was there a film (including all the great foreign language movies) that came out in 1953 better than From Here to Eternity.  Download and tune in to hear Jack Ferdman's take on it.

Ep #35 Native Numbers | Monday Musings

After a weekend immersion in ceremony with a Pit River elder and some Aztec ceremonial dancers for a friends wedding that I played flute for, I learned more meaning behind sacred numbers in some of the North American indigenous cultures and saw the synchronicities with the Patterns of Creation.

The Bloods Trials by N.E. Davenport

Textual Deviants is back and better (read: rustier) than ever!

In our much anticipated return to our textual roots, we tackle a listener suggestion, The Blood Trials by N. E. Davenport and from us to y'all, Mrs. Davenport might have just ate! Don't let the stunning cover or description fool. This is no YA novel, more like Adults ONLY!

We follow Ikenna, our protagonist, (and fellow vaguely Naija gyal!) as she tries her best to figure out who killed her grandfather in the novel with a sci-fi/fantasy landscape. To make matters worse, the only way she will be able to figure it out is to pledge to participate in the Praetorian soldier (blood) trials, in order to get closer to the people she believes ordered the hit. Even worse? She has to manage to hide her blood gifts all while desperately trying to remain alive herself.

Dive into Ikenna's world of the Mareenians and Khanaians with us as we discuss this weeks book deviation, The Blood Gifts by N.E. Davenport!

    EP. 112 - A Storm of Swords: Ch. 45

It's episode 112 and we have one single chapter for you - a Catelyn chapter. Raven explains her thoughts on Cat getting more and more pointless as a character, we perform complicated arithmetic to figure out Edmure Tully's age, we try to break down Cat's continued hatred for Jon Snow, and Jess reveals some curious changes that were made for the show. We also discuss Raven gaining weight for the first time in her natural life, how much our lives have changed since we shared a room in our mom's little basement suite, and what we didn't expect from our first attempt at playing Dungeons & Dragons.

    EP. 102 - A Storm of Swords: Ch. 24-26

We actually manage to get through three chapters in this week's episode! Raven's mind is blown for the tenth time when Jess notices the Reeds may know more about Lord Eddard than Bran, and it's blown again when Jess points out the shockingly familiar name of one of the gods of Melisandre's religion. Raven is left reeling and yammering nonsensical praise for George R.R. Martin's impressive writing ability. We also learn the meaning of a "Lord's Kiss." Other topics include: Jess makes a foolish mistake involving tacos, pizza holds dark memories for us, we might be morning people, and we get sloppy drunk and have hangover poops.

    EP. 94 - A Storm of Swords: Ch. 8-9

In today's chapters of A Storm of Swords, we examine how George R.R. Martin employs exposition in Dany's introductory chapter, we learn more about dragons, Jorah makes a move on Dany, and the Unsullied sound very different from how we remember them in the show. Also, we discover Jojen Reed isn't a true greenseer and Bran's mind might be melding a little too closely with Summer's. Jess tells us about the other books she's reading, including the Satanic Bible and the Witch's Bible, and Raven talks critically of the writing in Divergent by Veronica Roth.
