Ep. 49 Two of Austin's oldest houses

You know one — the French Legation — as the “oldest house in town.” Locals and tourists love this Creole-style home that rests on a steep crest; it was built for Alphonse Dubois de Saligny, France’s chargé d’affaires to the new Republic of Texas.

You are probably familiar with the other handsome house — Boggy Creek Farm — because of its organic foodstuffs rather than its history.

S2E07_Unsanctioned Republics of Texas and California Officials Rumored to Have Discussed Future Secession Plans

Before entering the Union in 1846, the Republic of Texas had been an independent nation for almost ten years.  The nation was almost as large in land area as the United States, and even had accumulated a sizable foreign debt due to its war with Mexico.  The debt, along with a substantial number of former American citizens with considerable political clout within the borders of Texas, eventually led to the annexation of the Republic of Texas into a position of American statehood.   To this day, the republic still has an unofficial government, in place should the rebirth of the republic ever occur.  On the other hand, the Republic of California never truly stood as an independent nation; and the republic existed, in name only, but for a few weeks.

    S1E5_Ahmed Announces Massive Defense Cuts

At a pre-Memorial Day dinner hosted last night by joint American veteran associations, President Halima Ahmed startled the pro-military crowd when she proposed her plan to drastically cut defense spending and manpower over the course of the next six months. The stunned gathering listened in disbelief as the President rolled our her radical new plan.   First, Ahmed revealed her intent to negotiate an accelerated  peace settlement between North Korea and South Korea. The plan calls for an immediate reunification of the two warring nations.

S1E1_Unrest Mounts at District of Columbia Quarantined Zone Border Wall

On a date, which at one time would have marked the celebration of the 300th Anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence, the National Security Force (NSF) for the Democratic Republic of Islamic American States (DRIAS) pushed back angry demonstrators attempting to gain access along the northern border wall of the District of Columbia Quarantined Neutral Zone (DCQNZ).  Armed with sledge hammers, iron rods, and paint filled balloons; the zealous followers of Abal Ismael, thought to be the most radical leader within the Alishi Mulgaric movement, repeatedly surged forward toward the border wall in an attempt to overpower the NSF defenders.  The insurgent’s ultimate goal – gain access to the restricted former “first city” and then destroy, or at least deface, all war memorials and monuments which the group consider anti-Islamic or derogatory toward the Muslim faith. .

In an ironic twist of fate, the day designated to honor our nations President turned into a ‘day of firsts”.  As a part of the President’s Day celebration, former Speaker Halima Ahmed was sworn in as the 49th President of the United States; and in the process became the first Muslim, the first female, the first person under the age of forty, and the first Speaker of the House to assume the duties of the Presidency under Title 3, Chapter 1, Section 19 of the U.S. code – the law covering the Order of Secession for the Office of the President.

S1E4_U S Code Holds Precedence Over 25th Amendment in Clarifying Order of Presidential Succession

S1E4_U S Code Holds Precedence Over 25th Amendment in Clarifying Order of Presidential Succession

To be honest, after the office of the Vice President, the average American citizen has no idea of the legal order of succession to fill a vacancy in the Office of President of the United States - or even where to find that order of succession?
Under ordinary circumstances, the Constitution of the United States provides guidance for filling a vacated Presidency. Our Founding Fathers established the initial guidance for Removal, Death, Resignation, or Inability to discharge the Power and Duties of said Office in Article I, Section 1, Paragraph 6. Constitutionally, adjustments to the document with regard to the Presidential succession process were set in place, January 1933, with the ratification of the 20th Amendment; and again, in February 1967, with the ratification of the 25th Amendment.

    S1E3_A Nation in Crisis

    S1E3_A Nation in Crisis

An unconfirmed report of an averted constitutional crisis, just hours before President Ahmed’s inauguration ceremony, is circulation within the inner circles of the nation’s power brokers.   An unnamed source, said to be a high ranking senior official from former President Coleman’s administration, told of an unprecedented, top secret meeting which was held at Camp David.  The alleged participants were all nine members of the Supreme Court, the Senate Majority Leader (Kelly Hutchinson), Senate Minority Leader (Linda Adar), the Speaker of the House (Halima Ahmed), the House Minority leader (Joe Dean Malloy), and Clifton Barnes  - Chief of Staff  for both former President Colman and President Boles.
