123 El dolor del amor
Había una vez un rey que se enamoro locamente de una joven del pueblo. Había visto la joven caminando por el pueblo un día de mercado y de solo mirarla se enamoro profundamente. Su rostro bello como un amanecer y su mirada profunda le hacían perder el aliento. Así que inmediatamente ordeno que la transadaran a su palacio y la vistieran con las más bellas prendas que encontraran y la llenaran de joyas. El rey había proyectado desposarla y hacerla su mujer favorita. De un modo misterioso, la joven cayo gravemente enferma el mismo día que puso los pies en el palacio.
Su estado fue empeorando al pasar los días y de su imagen señorial no quedaba sino la mirada profunda y bella que siempre tuvo. Su cuerpo fue perdiendo peso hasta llegar a ser solamente un manojo de huesos y su pelo negro azabache fue perdiendo color y tornándose gris. El rey que desde el principio se enamoro locamente, se dolía de verla así y llamo a los médicos del reino para que encontraran una cura a sus padecimientos.
Los médicos, los magos y los curanderos del reino fracasaron en encontrar la cura y su estado de salud fue empeorando cada vez mas y la pobre muchacha se debatía entre la vida y la muerte.
El rey que había visto a la muchacha en su esplendor se dedicó día y noche a sus cuidados y a medida que pasaban las noches de vigilia a su lado mas se enamoraba y soñaba con volverla a ver como la había visto el primer día.
Desesperado el rey ofrecio la mitad de su reino a aquel que fuera capaz de curarla y la muerte a quien fracasara en el intento. Pero nadie se presentó a curarla ya que era imposible encontrar un remedio a quien los mejores médicos no habían podido curar.
Un día se presentó ante las puertas del palacio un joven labriego. El joven pidió ver a su majestad el rey y le prometió que el podría curar a la joven y ganar la mitad del reino. Pero que solo lo haría si podía hablar a solas con ella. El rey en su desesperación dejo que aquel labriego de pobre vestimenta entrara en los aposentos reales y espero en la puerta por mas de una hora.
Cuando el labriego salió le dijo al rey.
Su majestad tengo un remedio infalible para que la joven se recupere y tan seguro estoy de el remedio que estoy dispuesto a ser decapitado si ella no se cura. Pero el remedio que propongo es sumamente doloroso. No para la joven sino para usted su majestad
El rey preso de la desesperación grito. Que remedio es ese. Mi vida misma depende de lograr el amor de esa joven y nada es mucho para que ella esté a mi lado. Dime ya el remedio.
El joven levanto la cabeza y mirando al rey a los ojos le dijo.
La joven esta enferma de amor. Ella era mi prometida y solamente se curará junto a mi.
El remedio es que la dejes ir conmigo.
Cuenta la leyenda que el rey amaba demasiado a la muchacha para dejarla marchar e igualmente la amaba tanto que no podría dejarla morir y que aquel joven labriego y su novia vivieron felices reinando sobre todo el reino.
