Bands on the Ruin: New Orleans

Bands on the Ruin: New Orleans

In 2001 VH1 debuted the show Bands on the Run.  It was a massive hit, yet it only lasted one season...  We felt like it needed much more attention.

In the wake of Flickerstick's reunion (long after Soulcracker, Harlow, and Josh Dodes threw in their towels), we have decided to break down this insanely dated time-capsule of what-the-f*ckedness and talk with other touring musicians, friends, and music journalists about what they got wrong and what they got right.

For this episode head to the place that Ross and Ian once called home... New Orleans. From Snake and Jakes getting even more love on this show, to The Boot, to Dixie Tavern, Carolton Station, and The Matador no stone is left unturned in this rock odyssey.

You can watch every episode of the show for free on youtube HERE.  Catch up and catch the magic.

If you want early access to these episodes, head over to the Rigs of Dad Patreon Page where you can also hear more unedited, ad-free interviews with previous guests, patreon exclusives, and beyond! PLUS early access to other episodes, including my recent conversation with Evan Patterson of Jaye Jayle, Young Widows, and Breather Resist!

Ian has some tunes with his project  The Interesting Times Gang that you should check out and support via bandcamp.

Ross's band Burial Waves will be playing with Spotlights June 22nd at The Metro in Baltimore.

Nat and Ian have some tunes you must check out.  Keep up with all things Strangelight by Checking out their BANDCAMP page for all the details.

    Rad things:

    The Goonies

    The Goonies
Halloween may be over but, with Thanksgiving coming up soon, this whole month is dedicated to you, our fans and loyal listeners who've asked us to record special episodes. Yes, we're giving thanks to all of you by taking your requests and giving you what you asked for!
First up, by request, is The Goonies. The 1986 adventure film written by Christopher Colombus, directed by Richard Donner and produced by Stephen Spielberg. Add to that pedigree an amazingly talented cast and it's one helluva ride!

    Scrooged

    Scrooged

We're revisiting Charles Dickens' immortal classic as warped through the comic sensibilities of Bill Murray as we watch Richard Donner's 1988 Christmas hit Scrooged. Listen as we discuss Murray's manic take on the miserly main character, consider the implications of updating A Christmas Carol to the Reagan years, and swoon over Carol Kane's adorably violent performance as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Warning: Contains explicit language, spoilers, and chronologically-disordered viewings of Iron Man 2.

Our theme song is "Nostalgia TV" by Edward Jonathan Blakeley through Lynne Publishing.

    The Omen (1976)

the Rigs of Dad Prodcast - Directors Draft Round 1 w/ Brent Eyestone

Ross and Ian are joined by returning guest Brent Eyestone of Dark Operative Records to pick the absolute best films from the best directors in the first ever Directors Draft.

For Round One, we look at the works of James Cameron, Doug Liman, Ben Affleck, Sidney Lumet, Tony Scott, Richard Donner, Shane Black, Paul Thomas Anderson, Sam Mendes, and Joe Dante.  Picking the best of the best from Gremlins, to True Romance, to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and beyond.

Brent Eyestone is a guy that has worn so many hats in the music industry, he singlehandedly might be keeping Lids in business.  He is the label head of Dark Operative (Powertrip, Caspian, Burial Waves, This Will Destroy You), you may be familiar with his catalogue at Magic Bullet Records, his music in Bleach Everything, Highness, and so so so much more.

If you are a casual fan or a film obsessive, you will love to hear these dudes (whose only qualifications are playing bass) chat about all things film in this very special episode of Film Basics with Bassists That Love Film.

To hear the extended version of this conversation and support the podcast, head over to www.patreon.com/rigsofdad and click away, OR just download the Patreon ap, search for Rigs of Dad, and you can support creators like me and so many more in the process!  We take deep dives into "The Suicide Squad", "Boy Behind the Door", "Old", the Coen Brothers, and so much more.

Beyond this episode, you will have access to extended interviews with interview guests, merch discount codes, and much more.

Scrooged Part 2: Shooting, Post & Release

"It's Christmas Eve. It's... it's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we... we... we smile a little easier, we... we... we cheer a little more"

Richard Donner is ready to go. Bill Murray is ready to go. The script is ready to go. What could go wrong?...Let's see, a lot of on set fighting, injuries, an ending a writer hated and critical reviews that might have not understood it yet.

The second half of the Scrooged story has a lot to uncover. So let's go for a ride!
