    What we’re Enjoying

Shua found a cool YouTube channel that spotlights innovative 3-D printing featuring some really cool inventions by a guy named Ivan Miranda. A guy with a fun personality and some really brilliant solutions to crazy ideas. Jay has been rewatching the Daredevil series and is remembering why he loved season 1 so much.

    Sci-Fi Saturdays

This week on Sci-Fi Saturdays Jay revisited the sequel to the wildly popular Matrix original, Matrix Reloaded (2003). Despite the now dated innovative special effects, it was a really beautiful movie to watch that expanded the Matrix universe in a very unique way.  Make sure to play around with the interactive map on MCULocationScout.com, now featuring Daredevil Season 1. Plus, you can tune in to  SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua talk about great stuff in the MCU.

    Enjoy Movies!

In 1984, Michael Douglas was getting into producing and had purchased a script from a waitress he met at Alice’s Restaurant (no, I’m serious!). He tried to get some very popular, handsome, macho actors to play the lead, opposite the up and coming Kathleen Turner. But ultimately he decided he’d just play the hero himself. With Robert Zemeckis at the directing helm, they set out to make a romantic adventure in the jungle. (But not really Columbia, because it was actually too dangerous) It became  a gigantic hit that established Douglas as a strong leading man, put Turner on the road to a string of hits, and gave Zemeckis the ability to create Back to the Future.

Would you give the kidnappers the map or would you go after the jewel? Would you try to romance Joan Wilder? First person that emails me with the subject line, “El Corazon” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know. Is the Pinochio Remake really that bad?!

Is the Pinochio Remake really that bad?!

Hollywood is continuing with its mission of live-action remakes, and adding another to the list of nostalgic reboots is Pinocchio, a classic childhood favourite by Disney about a marionette’s journey to becoming a real boy. Despite being supported by a star-studded cast, the movie has not been received well, with many saying it is the worst movie of all time, but is it that bad? In this episode, we put the debate to rest and explain why the critics are right about Pinocchio as we unpack the movie from beginning to end, from the boring dialogue and childish jokes to the underwhelming cinematography. We discuss why the live-action version does not work, why it feels like no effort was put into making the movie, and why Michael had to use subtitles to understand Tom Hank’s voice acting. We unpack the characters’ cringy Italian accents, the terrible CGI moments of the movie, how it relied on the nostalgia of other franchises, why the remake does not live up to expectations, whether the animation quality saves it, and more. Tune in to find out why this movie is a perfect cure for insomnia with Martin and Michael!

Episode 44 - Back To The Future

Episode 44 - Back To The Future

Its 2023! There's nothing that says New Years Day like a film based on looking into the past. Currently, this movie has moved up to #30 on the IMDB Top 250 since we froze the list back in 2016, which speaks to how well this movie holds up over time. Back to the Future (1985), directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Book Vs. Movie (2019 Replay) The Polar Express

The Margos take a wild ride into the classic 1985 children’s book and compare it to the 2004 Robert Zemeckis Film. It’s our last new episode of the year, and we had to celebrate with one of our most requested titles ever--The Polar Express from author/illustrator Chris Van Allsburg. The book has sold millions of copies since its 1985 release (one million by 1989 alone!), and it's only 32 pages, so we only have a few beautiful things to say about it. But what about the 2004 film starring Mr. Tom Hanks? We have feelings about this movie, kids--and we want to know what YOU think in the comments below. So between the book & movie--which did we like better? Have a listen to find out! In this ep the Margos discuss:
    • Chris Van Allsburg's amazing career
    • The basic differences between the book & movie
    • The cast of the movie Tom Hanks ( Hero Boy, Father, Santa Claus, Conductor, and Hobo,) Leslie Zemeckis (Mother, Sister Sarah,) Eddie Deezan (Know-It-All,) Nona Gaye (Hero Girl,) Peter Scolari (Billy-Lonely Boy,) and Micheal Jeter (Smokey.)
    Clips Featured:
    • The Polar Express trailer
    • “When Christmas Comes to Town” (Glen Ballard & Alan Silvestri)
    • “Rocking on Top of the World” by Steven Tyler
    • Outro music “Believe” by Josh Groban
