Der Duster ist die Ikone der Marke Dacia. In dieser Folge finden wir heraus, warum er eine sinnvolle Alternative zu den bekannten SUVs ist. Obwohl er im Vergleich zu den übrigen Kompakt-SUVs deutlich günstiger ist, ist der Duster nämlich kein Verzichtsauto. In dieser Folge schauen wir uns auch das Design und die Verarbeitung genau an.

Wegen ihrer Robustheit und Langlebigkeit setzte man die Aussenfassade in Aluminium früher vor allem bei Industriegebäuden ein. Mittlerweile möchten viele Bauherren auch bei Mehr- und Einfamilienhäusern von der hohen Funktionalität des Materials profitieren. Dies führte zu neuen Designs und damit zu grösseren Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten.

I taught this week on the call of Abraham and the development of God's missionary call through the nation of Israel as they were responsible to communicate the truth of God to the cultures around them. They were given that great commission. The great commission didn't start in Matthew 28. It started with Abraham in Genesis 12 —the first three verses there —Abraham, chosen by God to raise up a nation who would then be God's priests to the world so that they would be a blessing to all of the nations. They had a unique role in the great monotheistic religion. The Jews were supposed to reflect morality to the world. Israel was to witness to the name of God. When they talked about the name of God and witnessing to God's name, that does not mean that they were to let everybody know what they called God, "Yahweh." Their goal wasn't to cover the countryside with evangelists who just let everybody know what the right word for God was. CO₂ and methane are a threat to the Earth's climate - at least too much of it. Almost all experts say that we humans are influencing the climate through emission of CO2 and methane. A few see it differently. But no matter who is right. It is a universal principle that a functioning system should not be disturbed. And for this reason alone, it is necessary to recapture the CO2 that we humans have demonstrably blown into the atmosphere. And there is good news.

When quantum computers arise, it will be an unprecedented leap in computer performance. And in effect a revolution of our world.
Since 1980 people have been working on the concept and prototypes for a new kind of computer, the quantum computer. They calculate not only with bits with 0 and 1, but with so-called qubits, which assume infinitely more states in three dimensions and can perform many calculations at the same time.
A quantum computer can complete a complex task for which today's most powerful computer needs 10,000 years - in just three minutes. And shortly after that just in seconds. 10,000 years means that the task simply cannot be solved today. But three seconds means that solvability becomes a matter of course. This is called quantum supremacy. So far, that was all science fiction. This leap could come sooner than we thought.
It was supposed to remain a secret. But in October 2019 it became known unintentionally that a team at Google had reached quantum supremacy.

Tolerable climate and economic conditions

Lamontagne’s study defines tolerable economic conditions as follows: the present value of abatement costs would not exceed 3% of gross world product and climate damages would not exceed 2% of gross world product. Current gross world product is estimated to be$80trillion, so 3% of that would be $2.4 trillion. Although this a large dollar amount, it would be a reasonable investment as a percentage of gross world product. Tolerable climate is defined as limiting warming by 2 degrees Celsius by 2100.

Robust Abatement

Abatement costs that range between 3% and 5% of global world product would be considered both aggressive and yet also uncertain in terms of limiting warming. However, because not taking action guarantees failure, immediate action is the best shot at having a tolerable future. The cost of alternative energy sources and how quickly abatement efforts take placewill determine the eventual, actual cost. In addition, actions that are important for the climate in the near term will not be important fifty or a hundred years on. Whatever climate abatement initiatives we undertake today, and which will surely be expensive, will primarily benefit future generations.

Window for Action

The study used a model that explored 5.2 million alternative scenarios. Limiting warming to 2 degrees Celsius is possible, but only feasible in the most optimistic scenarios. Further, the analysis shows that in order to have at least a 50 percent chance of achieving a tolerable climate and economic future, net zero CO2 emissions need to be reached by the year 2030. The window for action is narrow: time is running out to reduce emissions and avert really significant climate impacts.

Jonathan Lamontagne is assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Tufts University School of Engineering. He researches water resources, decision-making under uncertainty, hydrologic statistics, and integrated global change assessment. His study, Robust abatement pathways to tolerable climate futures require immediate global action,was published in Nature Climate Change.

He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental water resources systems analysis from Cornell University. His graduate studies focused on flood frequency analysis and the incorporation of uncertainty in hydropower systems planning. Following his graduate studies, Lamontagne worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University, studying uncertainty and robustness issues for models of the integrated human-climate system. He joined the Tufts Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2017.
