Romans 1-3 | Exploring Faith and Righteousness

Ever wonder how different cultures perceive and relate to God? Join us as we journey through the fascinating church in Rome, a melting pot of Jews and Gentiles, exploring how their interactions with God differed, and yet, interestingly intersected. We'll reveal how some, in their quest for self-gratification, chose to deviate and sculpt their own gods. Get ready to delve into Paul’s insightful critique of both Jews and Gentiles, underlining our shared need for forgiveness and grace through Jesus.

We're taking you on a thrilling journey through Paul's letters to the Romans, retracing his travels through Macedonia and Greece. Feel his anticipation as he yearns to visit Rome while still harnessing the power of the Gospel. We'll tackle the controversial topic of God's wrath and its consequences on those who reject Him, before reminding everyone of a central truth: God doesn't play favorites and all will be judged by their deeds. Then, we'll cap the episode off with a deep dive into faith and righteousness, especially concerning Jews and Gentiles, sparking an enlightening conversation about God's unwavering faithfulness. So, buckle up for an episode jam-packed with enlightening discussions, profound realizations, and a fresh perspective on faith and righteousness.

Romans 1 starts by emphasizing the power of the Gospel as the revelation of God's righteousness and the salvation for all who believe. Paul addresses the sinful nature of humanity, describing how people rejected God, leading to idolatry, immorality, and various vices. He highlights God's righteous judgment against these behaviors and how individuals exchanged the truth of God for lies, resulting in moral degradation. Paul condemns both the Gentiles and Jews for their sinful ways, highlighting the universality of sin and the need for redemption through faith in Christ.

Romans 2 stresses the accountability of all individuals before God, emphasizing that both Jews and Gentiles will face judgment based on their deeds. Paul addresses hypocrisy, emphasizing that outward rituals or knowledge of the Law without obedience hold no value if one fails to live according to God's standards. He emphasizes the importance of true circumcision of the heart rather than outward symbols. Paul underlines that it's the doers of the Law, not merely hearers, who will be justified before God.

Romans 3 continues by highlighting that all, both Jews and Gentiles, are under sin and fall short of God's glory. Paul reaffirms that no one is righteous on their own, and the Law serves to reveal sin rather than provide justification. He emphasizes the righteousness that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, available to all who believe, as the way to salvation. Paul concludes that God's righteousness

    Deconstructing Sin

    Deconstructing Sin

In this episode, Jeff shares with Leigh his post evangelical understanding of sin. They talk about what the concept of sin was for them when they were in the evangelical church. They look at how the insecurity behind that belief, impact of it on those who practice it, and the damage it does. In the second half of the episode, Jeff goes full-Bible-nerd and explains how he used passages from Paul's letters to find a new understanding of sin - an understanding that calls him to love and serve others in a healtier way.

Episode 158: "A Good and True Story" [Part 2] Daniel Ray talks with Dr. Paul Gould about his new book

Our guest this week on Apologetics Profile, Christian philosopher Dr. Paul Gould, sits down with us to provide the True and Good Story of why the laws of the universe exist in the first place and why there is order, unity, harmony, and beauty at the heart of modern science's quest for a theory of everything. Paul wrote his latest book, A Good and True Story, with the atheist and skeptic in mind. Instead of an amalgam of dry, philosophical syllogisms and isolated factoids, Paul weaves together a compelling story of clues that point us all toward the greatest Story ever told.

On the next two episodes of Apologetics Profile we sit down with Christian philosopher, avid outdoorsman, and father, Dr. Paul Gould to talk about his latest book A Good and True Story. It is an apologetic work written in the prose of story and narrative, written with unbelievers and skeptics in mind. Paul translates the philosophical and scientific arguments into an inviting and compelling story - a great book to share with your atheist or skeptic friends or family members.

Want to Know How You Can Be Right With God 100% of the Time?-Romans 1:18-32

Want to Know How You Can Be Right With God 100% of the Time?-Romans 1:18-32

In Romans 1:17, the Apostle Paul makes a bold statement. "For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,  just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.

As born again Christians, we have been made right with God by our faith, and not by our works so that no one can boast. That is the good news!

But then in Romans 1:18, Paul makes a 180 and makes a bold warning to the unbelieving Gentiles so that they might be saved and escape from God's wrath. This is the bad news for unbelievers who are not born again.

Listen in as Mike and Kevin talk about it.

Ground Rules for Using Natural Theology | Theoretical-Practical Theology Session #10

Ground Rules for Using Natural Theology | Theoretical-Practical Theology Session #10

    From Theoretical-Practical Theology Volume 1, pages 80-86

Natural theology needs some ground rules. We can either embrace it too much and start having a low opinion of the Bible's value. Or we can reject natural theology of any value, but this makes us deny what the Bible says about God revealing Himself in nature, such as Psalm 19 and Romans 1. What are some careful ground rules for us to follow? Peter van Mastricht shares 4 questions for us to answer, which serve as a litmus test for our view of natural theology.

How Theology is Revealed in Nature and Scripture | Theoretical-Practical Theology Session #9

    From Theoretical-Practical Theology Volume 1, pages 73-80

Is theology a biblical term? What can we learn about God outside the Bible? How does Scripture relate to reason? These are all questions we answer today by looking at Peter van Mastricht's explanation of how theology is revealed in nature and Scripture.

Episode 541: Pauline Paradox: Part 5 - Romans

Episode 541: Pauline Paradox: Part 5 - Romans

Continuing on with the Pauline Paradox series in this part five, we spend some time going through Paul's letter to the Romans, one of his most difficult letters to understand. We uncover the context of the letter and then read through some of the more misunderstood verses, but keeping them in the context in which they were written to find out if Paul supports the ongoing validity of the Torah, or if he is against it for Christians today.

The Gospel Is The Road That Leads Us To God - Audio

The Gospel Is The Road That Leads Us To God - Audio
You have probably heard the phrase, "All Roads Lead To Rome." This was a mantra of many in the ancient world all the way into Medieval literature to note the fact that the Romans had developed a vast infrastructure and system of highways and roads to stretch to all points of their empire. It was a source of pride for all Romans, but a source of intimidation to all under their control. Paul wanted to travel those roads to get to the believers in Rome. Those roads have long since deteriorated, along with the power of Rome, but the Gospel still stands today as the road that leads us to God.
