Ep. 86 You Are Worthy of Healing with Ruthie Lindsey

Ep. 86 You Are Worthy of Healing with Ruthie Lindsey

In this week's episode I am joined by Ruthie Lindsey.

At seventeen years old, Ruthie was hit by an ambulance outside of a gas station in rural Louisiana. She broke her neck, punctured her lungs, and ruptured her spleen. Doctors performed a spinal cord fusion using wire and miraculously, she walked out of the hospital within a month.

Only a few years later, newly married and settling into adulthood, a simple turn of her head left her body riddled with chronic pain. Her case confounded medical professionals and in the months that followed, she became addicted to narcotic painkillers, depressed, and bedridden. After dozens of visits to specialists and surgeons, a doctor discovered that the wire holding her neck together was piercing her brain stem. Without another surgery, she would be paralyzed.

As she prepared for the procedure, her father passed away suddenly, her marriage began to collapse, and she surrendered her spirit to dependency and suffering. The surgery repaired her spine but she still felt broken, inside and out, until she chose to change her narrative.

Ruthie went home to the same town where she almost lost her life. She decided to learn joy again, to retrain her spirit to soothe her physical pain, to salvage strength from her suffering. She traded fentanyl for sunsets and morphine for picking wildflowers on the side of the road. Ruthie stopped using her body as a hiding place and started using it as her bridge to connect with the world.

Now a speaker, author, podcast host, and social media figure, Ruthie travels the globe sharing her story, empowering others to find purpose in their pain and to look for beauty in the midst of their brokenness. Her new memoir, There I Am: The Journey from Hopelessness to Healing is available now.

Dr. Ruth Feldman on The Franciska Show

Dr. Ruth Feldman on The Franciska Show
Dr. Ruth Pinkenson Feldman is a recipient of the prestigious Covenant Award for Outstanding Jewish Educators. For 12 years she had the privilege of being the Director of Early Childhood Services for the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America. In that capacity, she developed groundbreaking initiatives in the field of Jewish early childhood education utilizing new technologies, traditional Jewish texts and cutting-edge research in the fields of child development and early education.

During her tenure at the JCC Association, Ruth convened an extraordinary team of artists and educators who together produced "An Ethical Start" a program for the JCCs to learn and incorporate the teachings from Pirkei Avot, a classic Jewish text which has given guidance for ethical behavior for thousands of years.

A graduate of Tufts University, with honors in both Child Study and in Philosophy, Ruth holds a Masters Degree from the Bank Street College of Education, and a doctorate from Temple University. Her dissertation on "The Impact of Jewish Day Care on Parental Jewish Identity" is frequently cited in the literature. Ruth's secular credentials have enabled her to teach in universities and her varied interests for continuing education have taken her to Reggio Emilia and to work closely with world-class educators and leaders. She was a Jerusalem Fellow and lived with her family for a year in Israel studying and 're-conceptualizing' Jewish early childhood education.

In addition to her national and regional speaking engagements and consultations, Ruth has created a new intergenerational initiative to address the realities and needs of our contemporary Jewish culture: with the publication of her book, “The Green Bubbie: Nurturing the Future” Available on Amazon.

Notwithstanding her decades of work in the field of early childhood education, if you go to the www.RuthFeldmanArt.com. you will see her life and accomplishments as an artist- Since 2009 she has been a professional artist. Her work is deeply spiritual drawing on traditional Jewish texts, creating a new language of expression, translating the language of prayer into color. However, most of her attention is showered on her many grandchildren which over the past decade have reinforced her observation skills as an ‘early childhood specialist’ and mentor to many local ‘sprouts’ those young budding artists who live nearby or travel to be with her in her garden.

Reid Martin Basso... UpStaged! (Dannis Nahat Interview)

Reid Martin Basso... UpStaged! (Dannis Nahat Interview)
Exerpts from Reid and Ruth's phone interview with artistic visionary Dennis Nahat, who talks about his decades in theatre and, most notable, ballet. Dennis speaks about his decision to leave Ballet San Jose, in 2012, and how since then he has created a worldwide phenomenon of art, sound and dance by partnering with the country China to create the groundbreaking performance piece, 'Yulan'. Yulan, an international artistic cooperative vision between Nahat and a collective of like-minded international artists breaks down social and political international boarders with YULAN, inspiring a new thought and take on world creative vision. ***Please note, due to VoIP technology the sound quality of this phone interview is terrible. As of March 2013, we are working to coordinate a proper sit-down interview with Dennis Nahat to expand upon and record properly a new, in-person interview with Dennis. In the meanwhile, please excuse the poor audio quality until the new interview is uploaded.***
