Folge 1207: THE WHALE - Der schwere Kampf um Erlösung

    The Whale

    The Whale

The Whale stars Brendan Fraser in his triumphant return to the big screen, but it's also a notable return for Darren Aronofsky, whose last film mother! (2017) still has a lot of folks scratching their heads. No matter. Based on the 2012 play by Samuel D. Hunter (who writes the screenplay for his own adaptation), The Whale has emerged as an awards favorite for Brendan Fraser and A24, as well as a notable showcase for Sadie Sink and Hong Chau. But critics are certainly split. Are the Cinemaholics split as well? Tune in now to find out in this special bonus episode of the podcast.

The Whale (Justice for Brendan Fraser!)

The Whale (Justice for Brendan Fraser!)

We're back!! And we finally saw our beloved Brendan in Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of the play The Whale. What a time we had in this theatre. We laughed. We cried. We sobbed. We shared reclining seats with strangers and movie bros on a random Wednesday morning. We reflected. We digested. And we wanted more. It's a redemption film for Brendan and it's surely the beginning of a second wave for the Frase on the silver screen. Grab a box of tissues and get ready to applaud our baby Brendan all award season long. All this and so much more on this week's Mummy Dearest!

    Darren Aronofsky

    Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky is known for directing dark, provocative, divisive films such as “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan,” but in “The Whale,” he sees hope, “human connection and a belief in the human spirit.”

In this episode of “The Envelope,” Aronofsky reflects on how “The Whale” interacts with obesity and fatphobia, discusses exploring humanity through science, and describes why the “Brenaissance” — star Brendan Fraser’s triumphant return to acting — caught him by surprise.

    Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2 — Episode 96

    Stranger Things Season 4, Volume 2 — Episode 96

A supersized group of episodes of “Stranger Things” combined with delays in production due to the pandemic led to season 4 being split into two separate parts with the first seven episodes dropping in May and then the final two debuting in July.

Despite only two episodes remaining in the season, “Stranger Things” packed a lot into these episodes with a nearly four-hour run time that helped reach a conclusion leading into the fifth and final season of the show.

When we left at the end of episode 7, Vecna’s true identity had been revealed along with his connection to Eleven while Nancy got locked in a nightmare vision after paying a visit to the Upside Down looking for answers to the terror that has been haunting Hawkins, Indiana for years.

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to crank up Master of Puppets and load up on weapons from the WarZone as we discuss “Stranger Things: Season 4, Volume 2”…

    Fear Street: 1978 and 1666

Greetings, boils and ghouls! Today we chat about the final installments of Neflix's latest horror trilogy: "Fear Street: 1978" and "Fear Street: 1666". This frightening double-feature takes us on a terrifying trip to a '70's campground with a lurking axe man, then digs up the dirt on the 'basic witch' who's been haunting Shadyside for centuries. Gillian Jacobs, Kiana Madeira and Ashley Zukerman return to complete the tale, along with newcomers Sadie Sink and Emily Rudd. Based on R.L. Stine's classic book series, this trilogy of terror certainly gave us goosebumps! Get it?... Get it?
