Ep. 254 Dawn of the Dead (2004): “The Tale of Oingo Boingo”
Kim tells Ket about the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead starring Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames. We went from From Dusk Till DAWN to DAWN of the Dead! Let’s see how long they keep it going… or how long it takes for them to get bored or forget. Kim would also like to ask for a whiteboard for her birthday, please/thank you. So, call Dr. Collie! Most importantly, we’ll learn if Ket will live or die in Dawn of the Dead.
Dir. Zack Snyder
Writers George A. Romero, James Gunn

Meanderings #294: Listening to "Women Talking"
This past weekend, "Women Talking" won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The accolade is well deserved, as the movie is an incredibly powerful one. Dealing with upsetting material, "Women Talking" is distrubing not just for the real events it is based on, but for the truths it shows us about our world. Let's discuss.
Episode 367: The Running Man and the Reverse Cyrano
Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski are back to get you caught up on your physical media and it runs the gamut from the 1930s up until the Oscars this weekend including one Oscar for Joan Crawford and another hopefully for Sarah Polley. There is also Greta Garbo, Susan Hayward and Shirley Temple. A film about making the perfect man and another teen comedy about hoping to romance the perfect woman. Sony has some 4K editions of late ‘90s action and the pair fondly remember some 1980s Schwarzenegger sci-fi set from just a few years ago.

Episode 350: Avoid The Sandpit, It’s A Doozy!
The first Blu-ray show of 2023 with Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski brings about a variety of age-old classics to films fresh out of theaters. In-between there are films with early work from Joan Crawford, Matt Damon, Brendan Fraser, Diane Lane and Laura Dern. Brandi Carlile gets an assist in bringing Tanya Tucker back to the mainstream and then there is a trio of exemplary 4K releases including one from Criterion and Terry Gilliam, a modern classic from Bill Murray and Harold Ramis and an upgrade for one of the best science-fiction films from the 1950s.

Episode 349: The Best Films Of 2022
For the year-end show spotlighting their choices for the best films of 2022, Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy are joined by Collin Souter from the Christmas Movies Actually podcast to offer his selections as well. It was a year where the funny often came with the sad. A transition period through the pandemic where filmmakers were forced to adjust or find new commentary on a society that has drifted into disharmony where friends are lost and accountability is right around the corner. Only a few films made all three of their top 15 lists and there was only a single direct match in placement between any of them, so get out your writing pads and warm up those streaming queues because the trio are here to help you fill them up.
Golden Globes Snub Women & Brendan Fraser Snubs Globes
Award Season is here! To kick it off, the Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday. The ceremony will be broadcast once again in January after not being televised last year due to a boycott over claims of both payola and a disturbing lack of diversity. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association - the organization behind the Globes - promises that they are changing their ways. But that’s debatable - the list of nominations for Best Film Director had no women on it. Adding to the controversy surrounding the Golden Globes will be one notable no-show… Best Actor nominee Brendan Fraser. He is boycotting the Globes over his claims that he was sexually assaulted by a former HFPA president. So are the Golden Globes really changing their ways, or is it just a lot of talk?

101 // Jan Doense 🆚 Dawn of the Dead (1978) // Jan Doense ❤️ Dawn of the Dead (2004) // Duimpjeworstelen
By The Sea (9-18 september in Vlissingen).
