The Lost Boys
This is what happens when two middle aged Scottish men try and do a Podcast. Join us as we talk about, and look back at classic films from the 80's, 90's and beyond.
For our third episode, we cover the classic movie The Lost Boys. We take a trip back to October 1987 and discuss what was happening when the movie was released, the amazing soundtrack, the amazing fashion choices and the amazing greasy saxophone player the legend that is Tim Cappello!
Does The Lost Boys still hold up as Classic Movie status? Join us to decide.
Rock n Roll Grad School #67- Saxophonist Eddie Manion
It's probably easier to list the artists that saxophonist Eddie Manion hasn't played with. From Diana Ross to Tom Petty to Little Steven to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band (on tour and at the Super Bowl, no less), he's played with the greats.
And Eddie has a new album out, "Coastin' In," one where he revisits some of the classic songs from the past and re-interprets them in his own unique way. You can get the record wherever you get music. You can also follow Eddie on Facebook or Twitter, or check out his website.
Sax-ey Songs
The saxophone, a single-reed woodwind instrument usually made of brass, was designed around 1840 by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian instrument maker, flutist, and clarinetist. As an outgrowth of his work improving the bass clarinet, Sax began developing an instrument with the projection of a brass instrument and the agility of a woodwind.
Initially created for classical music, the use of the sax expanded exponentially with the introduction of jazz becoming very popular across the US. As the jazz age died down, the sax took on new roles in popular music with folks like Clarence Clemons, Grover Washington Jr, Phil Woods, Ronnie Ross, and David Bowie using it in a variety of new styles and ways.
On today’s show we are gonna take a look at the sax in popular music a bit closer and give you our Favorite Sax-ey songs.
Sen Morimoto
"Sen Morimoto" is a producer, artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Chicago, who brings an often witty but always observational style of lyricism to his style of modern off-kilter R&B.
Born in Japan but moving to the USA when he was just a small child, Sen kicked off his musical journey by learning Saxophone under the tutelage of Charles Neville, a legendary jazz musician from the New Orleans scene. It was an experience that taught him a lot not just about playing Sax but in how to bring out the emotion and feeling in any song within your given instrument.
After a solo move to Chicago Sen would begin to meet many other likeminded musicians and producers, leading to his first album release, 2018's "Cannonball!".
There is a lot more to know about Sen's early years, and his approach to music, and of course that's just what Jay and Jesse are talking about on this installment of Roots to Grooves.
"Roots to Grooves" is a production of SIGNL.
