    Children and Screen Time
    children-and-screen-time

In today’s news we hear more and more about the damaging impact advanced screen time has on the emotional and behavioral health of children. Please share evidence and research about this and explain what our children are facing today that we did not encounter 5, 10 or 20 years ago. In general, what is being seen regarding emotional, social and behavioral issues with our children.

    75. STOP LETTING YOUR PHONES STEAL WHAT MATTERS MOST

    75. STOP LETTING YOUR PHONES STEAL WHAT MATTERS MOST

Are you addicted to your phone?

or are you reluctant to admit that you are addicted?

Because it's okay! That's their goal and as we can tell they are good at it! This addiction is so strong that it is putting our children's development at risk.

Child development is relational and when we are distracted most of the time we are robbing our kids of their growth.

This has also led to continuous partial attention which is really robbing us and our littles of enjoying their childhood and forming a strong bond and connection.

If you haven't tried a social media cleanse i'd like to encourage you to try, if not please consider one of amma lisas other tricks such as

    • using an alarm clock
    • using a wristwatch
    • signing onto social media only at the computer
    • no phones in bed
    • screen-free mealtimes

We know it's hard but please consider. We'd also love to hear what you think about this topic! thanks for tuning in!

What's the point to your scrolling?

What's the point to your scrolling?

ALL of us are pretty bad at monitoring our screen use; be it TV or phone. Remember when a show would finish and we’d have to sit through the WHOLE credits to get to the next episode? Professor Adam Alter talks about these moments as "Stopping Cues". They're a sign to move on and do something different; to stop clicking and scrolling and binging. We've got some mindfulness tips to help you put stopping cues back into your life and get 8 hours sleep for once.

    Sleep

    Sleep

There’s chat about music and unexpected book recommendations, then it all turns soporific as the Fionas consider what it means to get a good night’s sleep. Do your sleep needs change with age? What are some tips to help you nod off? And does a nap do any good? Plus there’s a kernel about looking up, and some wisdom about screen use and owning your relationship status.

Episode 22: Blend of Darkness (with Brent Roberts)

Episode 22: Blend of Darkness (with Brent Roberts)
Yoel and Mickey welcome Professor of Psychology Brent Roberts from the University of Illinois to the podcast. One of the most influential personality psychologists of our day, Brent unleashes his thoughts on broad range of topics: candidate gene studies, personality, conscientiousness, coddling of the American mind, screen-time, senior colleagues, and the replication crisis in psychology. What is personality and how does it change? Why do people love the Myers-Briggs personality test? How would conscientiousness have helped us in our ancestral past? Has helicopter-parenting made American kids fragile and easily debilitated? Has the smartphone actually destroyed a generation? Should we be optimistic about the gains made by the reform movement in psychology? Bonus: Mickey gives Yoel a surprise gift. Special Guest: Brent Roberts.
