The reason we've been speaking about the person of the Holy Spirit for so many weeks is to build up to Pentecost Sunday. This is the day that the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples and close followers of Jesus in that upper room. They were waiting for the "gift" of the Holy Spirit that Jesus told them about on a few different occasions. Most recently, Jesus instructed them ten days prior just before Jesus ascended into the clouds. So here they are, waiting for something to happen that they had no idea what it would be, but they were obedient. This is the beginning of the first day of the "Church" and it changed their lives as well as the course of history. What's important for us today is that this same Holy Spirit is desiring to give us the same experience and the same power in our lives. Under the Law, there were three times each year that all Jewish men twenty years old and older were required to go up to Jerusalem to worship. They were: Passover, to commemorate the deliverance from Egyptian bondage; Pentecost, to commemorate the giving of the Law; and Tabernacle, to commemorate the Lord’s provision in the wilderness. It would be Pentecost, fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, that would change the world and usher in the New Testament Church.

Pentecost celebrates the birth of the Christian Church thousands of years ago. How do we celebrate Pentecost and more importantly-- how do we live it? Just like Pentecost was about getting the apostles fired up, we need to invigorate our own lives by letting God's life giving Spirit into our hearts. Pentecost was one of the three times that every male was to appear before the Lord each year. It was fifty-days after the resurrection. It was to commemorate the giving of the law and thanksgiving for the wheat harvest or first fruits. It is also called the fest of weeks. It was on this day that the Holy Ghost was poured out and the New Testament church was birthed.

Pastor Mike continues the series on The Holy Spirit this week and leads us into the area of seeking all the Holy Spirit has for the believer. Once we're saved, are we consciously or sub-consciously telling God that we can live life on our own or are we seeking all that He has for us? This may seem like an obvious question that of course we want more, yet it appears that many are in a superficial relationship with God and are telling Him they're comfortable where they're at in this relationship and really don't want to go any further into the Spiritual realm. Does this describe your life or a time what maybe you felt that way? Then listen in and see if God has more in store for all of His children and then ask yourself the tough questions that only you can of you life... Am I all in for Christ? Am I giving Him the best of me and continually ask for more of Him?

Fire can be productive or destructive. Fire has many good uses. Uncontained fire can be destructive. Contained fire is a great thing. A chimney is built to hold fire. Believers are built to hold the Fire of the Holy Spirit.
