Frank Gaffney: The Clear and Present Danger

Frank Gaffney: The Clear and Present Danger

Frank Gaffney has spent decades highly engaged in national security policy for the United States of America. He is the Executive Chairman and Founder of the Center for Security Policy and the former Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the Reagan administration. While the film Innovation Race only scratches the surface of the national security implications of the innovation race with China, this podcast aims to bring more detail on that front. While Gaffney did not appear in the film, he brings a valuable perspective on the threats America faces with China, specifically the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and how that clear and present danger is reminiscent of the Cold War with the former Soviet Union.

"My father is a war criminal by the definition my father spoke of" A Conversation with Craig McNamara

"My father is a war criminal by the definition my father spoke of" A Conversation with Craig McNamara

Craig McNamara is the son of Robert S. McNamara, who served as U.S. Secretary of Defense under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson during the 1960s. From his childhood, Craig cherished his father. But he also struggled for years to understand the elder McNamara’s role in the decisions that led to the war in Vietnam – an experience that forever distanced father from son.

Now a businessman and walnut farmer, Craig McNamara is founder of the Center for Land-Based Learning, an organization devoted to educating young farmers in the business of sustainable agriculture. Craig joins Mark Lawrence to talk about his remarkable life and especially his complicated relationship with the man he called ‘Dad.’

Russia, Ukraine, and Great Power Conflict with Robert M. Gates

Russia, Ukraine, and Great Power Conflict with Robert M. Gates

“Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has ended America’s thirty-year holiday from history,” Robert Gates opined in the Washington Post last month, referencing the United States’ reentry into great-power conflict for the first time since the Cold War. No more salient words have been written on the U.S. role in the crisis.

Russia’s brutal military campaign against Ukraine and its horrifying war crimes have stunned the West, which has responded with unprecedented sanctions and aid to Ukraine. But what are the trend lines behind the headlines? Is there a diplomatic off-ramp to end the crisis? What are the internal implications for Putin’s Russia and for NATO, China, and U.S. foreign policy?

Aaron sits down with former U.S. secretary of defense Robert M. Gates to unpack these and other issues in the ongoing crisis.
