Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

Boomer & Gio Podcast (WHOLE SHOW)

    Hour 1

We talked about the NHL Stadium Series this weekend at MetLife. The Islanders suffered a brutal loss which could lead to some players being traded, including Boomer’s son in law, Matt Martin. Gio wonders how the family reacts when Matt gets into fights during games. What teams could Matt end up with in a trade? Gio would love to see him go to the Rangers. The NBA All Star Game ended 211-186, so, yeah, no defense. Peter Schwartz is in for Jerry today and is in for his first update. He started with the Islanders loss at MetLife yesterday. The Islanders will host All Star Weekend in 2026. Rick Pitino called his players, ‘unathletic’ and ‘slow, laterally’, after their loss to Seton Hall. In the final segment of the hour, we talk about the viral video where a subway cello player gets hit on the head with his own metal water bottle.

    Hour 2

After their loss to Seton Hall, Rick Pitino said this is the worst experience of his coaching career. Boomer brought up a tweet from Rick Pitino, who was criticizing Mike Tannenbaum for talking about a trade scenario that involved Daniel Jones for Deshaun Watson. He wanted the Giants to get Jones protection and to have ‘patience’. And then he calls his own St. John's players, ‘unathletic’. Gio doesn’t like that he didn’t seem to take any accountability. Peter Schwartz returns for an update and starts with the Rangers beating the Islanders at MetLife Stadium. Matt Martin was interviewed after the game and Boomer was a part of the question. Peter is wearing a 5XL Islanders hoodie today. The NBA All Star Game ended 211-186. So, no defense. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer was locked into WFAN this weekend. He called in to TB & Sal on Friday and then into Brian Rascona’s show on Saturday. A caller says Boomer & Gio saved his life when he was looking up ways to commit suicide.

    Hour 3

An adult autograph seeker went after Breece Hall at Newark airport for not signing for him and Carl Banks had to step in. We also talked about the fight between Matt Martin and the Rangers rookie. Peter Schwartz returns for an update and Gio is jealous that Peter is able to enjoy things in life that Gio can’t. Peter goes to everything ‘that would show up on a library’s calendar’. Peter starts with the Rangers beating the Islanders in OT. The NBA All Star Game ended 211-186. St. John’s lost to Seton Hall and Rick Pitino said this has been the most unenjoyable experience in his coaching career. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about Tiger Woods withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational. We are not buying into the Tiger conspiracy theories.

    Hour 4

We took some calls and a Flyers fan wants to know why Boomer hates them so much. Boomer has an answer. Peter Schwartz returns for his final update of the day but first a caller wants to know if he ever had breakfast at ‘Jenny’s’. That’s where we’re at folks. We get a call from a guy who was there when Boomer last pooped in public in 1985. What a walk down memory lane. Peter starts with the Rangers beating the Islanders at MetLife Stadium. Peter said he would like to interview Al Michaels and Hulk Hogan. In the final segment of the show, we talked about Peter Schartz’s positive outlook on life and how happy he seems. Gio said there’s a lot of scuttlebutt about who is getting Spike’s job.

NHL Stadium Series Discussion; Isles Bad Loss; NBA All-Star Scorefest; Pitino Criticizes St. John's Players; Subway Cellist Meets Violence (Hour 1)

EPISODE 118: Unlocking what is holding us back with Elizabeth Halpin

EPISODE 118: Unlocking what is holding us back with Elizabeth Halpin

This season on We Go Boldly we will walk through what holds us back from living our best lives and doing all the things we dream about doing. We are focusing on how we can overcome our fear and doubt, be bolstered by faith, take risks, meet opportunity, and imagine unlimited possibilities. Every week we will work through a different aspect of what it means to both pursue our passions and accomplish the mundane; and how these topics help us to reach for our potential and live our boldest, most honest lives.

Our goal this season is to explore what is holding us back, keeping us locked away behind our imagined limitations, and stopping our growth. We coach women to live their version of a bold life and pursue their unique path. This season is all about taking action and living our best lives.

Today we are broadening our own horizons and talking to an incredible guest and new friend to the show. Welcome Elizabeth Halpin!

She assists with mission, visioning and future forecasting, branding, organizational culture and process implementation for the college. She specializes in women's empowerment and leads  Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice efforts. She also serves her community on the Town of Clinton Economic Development Committee and the Friends of Clinton Parks and Events non-profit board.

    Kevin Willard

    Kevin Willard
He said of course he's going to take recruits to the Willard Hotel. No, Kevin Willard, the new coach at the University of Maryland, has no connection to the 150-year old Washington landmark that sits across from the White House. But he does want recruits to know that playing near the nation's capital is a benefit beyond the court. After an impressive decade at Seton Hall, Willard has another challenge on his hands - Maryland fans have been waiting 20 years for the once-proud program that won the NCAA title in 2002, to bounce back and prove something in the Big Ten. Willard, who scouted for Rick Pitino with the Celtics and was an assistant for him at Louisville, can't wait to get started.

    RE-AIR: Coaches | Raftery vs Carlesimo | Ep 13

    RE-AIR: Coaches | Raftery vs Carlesimo | Ep 13

If you derive a headache from constantly smiling widely or laughing uncontrollably, you better have a bottle of aspirin at hand for this matchup of coaches.

Bill Raftery and P.J. Carlesimo have run the gamut of basketball coaching and broadcasting, from college to the NBA, from regional networks to the Final Four.

They were direct coaching rivals from 1976 to 1981 when Carlesimo was the head coach at Wagner College and Raftery was the same at Seton Hall. There were some wild games between the schools, including a New Year’s Eve game that went to double OT, and boy, do these two ever give you some memories about that game.

Raftery coached college ball from 1963 to 1981 and then went on to become one of the most popular TV commentators in a college basketball HOF career covering the last 33 years. His infectious laugh and sense of humor shine through in that job and it shines brightly in this podcast.

Carlesimo began his coaching career in 1971, most notably putting Seton Hall on the basketball map between 1982-1994, arriving just one year at the Hall after Raftery left.

P.J. went on to head coach in the NBA with the Trail Blazers, Warriors, and SuperSonics/Thunder.

In between the coaching stints, Carlesimo also joined the ranks of TV analysts with TNT, ESPN, and NBC.

    The Rivalry

What was the relationship between these two as they coached against one another? Raftery will kick it off with one big smile, “I never liked P.J.,” and off we go!

There were the weekly press conferences in New York City and New Jersey that turned into Broadway productions with the likes of Jim Valvano, Lou Carnesecca, and Tom Penders.

There were late-night feasts after games the likes of which may not exist today. There were antics and fireworks during the games that both coaches will regale you with.

Did priests really ref games? What about that picture of Raftery flying off the bench in midair parallel to the court? An endless needling by these two of one another continues here.

Joyful, insightful, unabashed, and unique are just some of the adjectives that describe what you will hear from two of basketball’s most delightful and knowledgeable individuals and coaches.

    Prepare to smile.

    EP 11: College Decisions

We are happy to have another good friend on the podcast, Tiffany Kodare! We know preparing for college can be daunting and we don't provide any tips on this episode (sorry, not sorry). But maybe you can learn a few things from our experience as we share what we wish we knew before making those college choices. We also discuss how involved our families were in the decision making process from choosing a school to choosing a major; financial concerns; and the type of experience we wanted when picking a college.  What factors did you think about when picking a college? Make sure to continue the conversation on our social media pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
