#128 - Letting Your Old Self Die

#128 - Letting Your Old Self Die

Let your old self die and recreate yourself in the likeness of who you'd like to be.

    - Andrew Love

We're all at different phases in our lives right now, and while our paths may differ, one thing is certain - we'll all end up at the same place, for the same goal, which is to become the best version of ourselves. There are many things we must give up along the process, many fears we must face, and our old selves we must let go of.

Most of us are scared to face our biggest fears and this is what’s hindering us from growing. We cannot force ourselves to face our fears right away. But we can always take our time, take small steps, and if we are afraid to face them alone, we can always turn to a community that can genuinely help and motivate us on our journey, such as High Noon. We can't grow unless we face the things that scare us the most, and once we have the courage to face them, we can certainly meet more challenges and explore new things fearlessly.

Our habits define who we are as individuals. We can be readily influenced by a variety of things that can become our habits because of the environment in which we’re in. Allowing ourselves to get rid of unhealthy habits that aren't beneficial to us is a key step toward rebuilding ourselves. It can be tough and painful to let go of our old unhealthy selves, but we should look forward to meeting our best selves. Reaching our desired destination and being able to look back and be proud of the journey we took is the best part of our new, fulfilled lives.

In this episode, Andrew and Benjy talk about why it's important to let go of our old selves and the benefits of doing so in terms of restoring and seeing a different version of ourselves. They also discuss why we shouldn't be afraid to face our biggest fears, especially if we do it with a community that can help us with our identity transformation, such as the High Noon community.

#118 - High Noon Japan | Luke Higuchi

#118 - High Noon Japan | Luke Higuchi

Japan is regarded as one of Asia's culturally conservative countries. Japanese culture is rich in rites and traditions that primarily value family honor, and keeps a careful balance between tradition and modernity.

Because of the importance of family honor in Japanese culture, there are many topics and issues that are not publicly discussed in Japan, one of which is sexuality. Even when media depictions are scrutinized and regulated, sexualization in the media continues to develop. The porn industry in Japan is labeled as a "business" that benefits the economy. Yet, it has a negative impact on how people see sexuality and women's reputation, as they are exploited. Because sexuality is shaped by culture and society, it is critical that people understand how these harmful factors affect and even destroy family values.

In Episode 118, we are joined by Luke Higuchi, Pastor of Georgia True Family Community Center in Atlanta, a Japanese yoga instructor, and a teacher of Buddhism's prospective life practice with Christian faith. He focuses on reaching out to Japanese people around the world, particularly in their own nation, and helping people who are battling addictions, such as porn addiction, through High Noon and their programs.

He shares his unique and inspiring story of how he learned about High Noon, and how it changed his unhealthy habits and transformed him into a man of God. And how High Noon helped him overcome his fear of sharing his story with the public and embrace it as his calling to help and inspire other people to overcome their addiction and develop sexual integrity.

There are times when we desire to change our destructive habits but are hesitant or embarrassed to tell anybody or ask for help. And that step was enough for God to perceive that we needed him on our journey; little did we know, he had already planned for us to meet people who would have an impact on and transform our lives for the better.

Episode 58: Rum Barrel Cocktail and The Shameful Tiki Room

Episode 58: Rum Barrel Cocktail and The Shameful Tiki Room
    Hi Guys,

I hope everyone is being safe out there. We are so glad that we bring you some sunshine to your day and an oasis for all of us.

The drink on this show is the Rum Barrel (or known as Barrel O' Rum) cocktail. This drink started back in the 50's with Don the Beachcomber. But like every other tiki drink, it has others claiming its creation.

First one, in Port O` Call in Tucson Arizona in 1960's, invented by Dean Short who owned several Polynesian restaurants. Second, it was designed at the Mai Kai, Ft. Lauderdale FL. The Mai Kai hired a mysterious bartender by the name of Mariano Licudine in 1956. He also used to work for Don. I am swaying towards Don on this one myself but you be the judge. Every tiki bar in North America (probably the world) has their own version of this drink. Some tiki bars like Smuggler's Cove will keep the recipe a secret even to their own bartenders as Don used to do in the days.

We go through two recipes for you today: Don's and Steve Crane's. Who is Steve Crane? You have to listen to get the answer to that one. Both recipes are very extensive and have a lot of ingredients so this is not a simple throw together drink on a sunny afternoon. You will have to collect some ingredients up for this one and possibly make some from scratch. We have you covered either way with recipes and get that blender out as we blend this one.
It will take crushed ice for the recipe and so get out some of that weekly aggression out as you bang away at some ice. I personally do mine in the garage away from the girls as they talk about what is new in gossip but that is another story. For the recipes refer to our recipe page: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/recipes/

On "Mark's adventures" segment: we cover a tiki bar close to home for us and the rest of Canada. The Shameful Tiki Room has served both Vancouver and Toronto for the past decade and is top on our list of places to go during the travel ban. This speakeasy tiki bar is hard to find so get that GPS working on your phone as you will need it. Mark goes over some of the cool cocktails and food with us. He also explains just how has this place dealt with COVID and make money in these troubled times. For more details to Mark's adventures, visit his website: https://tikicentralcanada.ca/marks-tiki-page/

On" Did you know?" segment: we cover some cool facts about the movie "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise....and yes, I have seen it and "no" I don't do flair!! Some cool facts you didn't know about the casting and how it was suppose to be written as Tom was suppose to be an old man...yeah well you know what I mean!!!

We do a reading on "Cautionary Tales" of our winner's letter to us from Jo-Anne that gets the place blazing! Well bring your fire extinguisher for this one LOL. You too can be a winner of your story that lead you into some deep waters in the past and today will get you cash!!! Go to our subscribe page and on our weekly newsletter, we have our "Cautionary Tale" contest where the winner of the month will get their letter read on the show, posted in our next newsletter and $25 Visa Gift Card!!!
