184 - John Dillinger: Public Enemy Number One

184 - John Dillinger: Public Enemy Number One

John Dillinger. J Edgar Hoover named him America's public enemy #1 for a reason. Dude LOVED to rob a bank. John lived and robbed during arguably the best time to be a gangster in America's history. Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, Bonnie and Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly - America was full of people not afraid to walk into a bank with a gun and demand some money. And if the cops showed up, they weren't laying down their guns. It seemed like everyone was robbing banks in the early 1930s. Why? Partially, because of the Great Depression. Partially because of different laws and a different level of law enforcement. It was easier to rob banks back then, easier to take on the cops, and easier to get out of prison if you got caught. Sticks ups, prison breakouts, and more explored in this action-packed edition of Timesuck. Take your mind off your troubles for a few hours and enjoy this free content!

    8. The Internet Killed MLS's Quirks

    8. The Internet Killed MLS's Quirks

Early MLS had some weird rules. No ties. Running shootouts. Clocks going up and not down. 4th subs for goalkeepers.  What's weirder were some of the rules they were looking at, like bigger goals or kick-ins instead of throw ins.  Listen to how Don Garber, the internet and Bob Bradley each had a hand in ending those rules.

Cheating the Game and Jurassic World Review

Cheating the Game and Jurassic World Review
In our intro this week, we discuss why ESPN sucks, getting gray in our beards, inevitably some poop talk arises, and then our excitement for the impending football season. At 26:17 we get into the heart of our sports talk, discussing the likely outcome of Tom Brady's all-day appeal hearing Tuesday. At 30:18 we move on to baseball to talk about the new Pete Rose revelations and why he should or shouldn't get in the Hall of Fame now. We follow that up on a brief discussion of the upcoming Rays/Red Sox series, and round out our sports talk with a brief glimpse into why shootouts, penalty kicks and other such tiebreakers suck the proverbial fat one. At 48:35 we move into some movie talk, touching on Independence Day: Resurgence, the newly announced Spider-Man casting, and our review of Jurassic World. ***SPOILER ALERT*** From 52:30 to 1:03:18, we get into detail on Jurassic World, which will completely spoil the movie for you if you have not seen it. ***/SPOILER ALERT*** Music credit: Ice Flow, Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/.
