Vaughn Fulkerson is the creator of SpiceMixers – Essential Mineral and Spice Blends.  Many are reporting seemingly miraculous holistic healing results by simply boosting their favorite food and beverages daily with SpiceMixers.

Vaughn became absorbed and fascinated with spirituality very early in his life.  Growing up in the 60s and 70s he rode the heady excitement of scientific revitalization in the West with Eastern influences flowing in, such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism.  Trained as a homeopath he was a consultant for naturopathic pharmacy chains in Los Angeles.  He raised his children drug free and as natural as possible, opting to let Nature proceed without intervention,  with a deep knowing that God’s way was preferable to man’s.
In the 90s he developed and built large housing projects with an emphasis on urban redevelopment, but his passion for health matters remained.  He competed in the 1990 Friendship Games in Seattle running the men’s marathon against the Soviets.  Sports, such as ocean kayaking with his boys and running events were a joy!  But by the 2000s Vaughn became aware of a steady physical deterioration.  Full marathons became half marathons… then much shorter events.  By the 2010s he struggled to run across the street to beat traffic.  This lead Vaughn to his personal discovery that “re-mineralization” of his depleted body – reducing inflammation - was magical!

While most love adventure, it still takes courage and determination to go find it and commit to it. Dr. Derya Baran, a Turkish native, who studied in Austria, Germany, and the UK before now working in Saudi Arabia, has ample courage and determination that have provided a life of adventure!

This is one of our best explorations of the link between the person and the science. Derya, an academic researcher and entrepreneur, that can’t stop thinking about how her work can benefit people’s lives. She develops smart and functional materials for energy harvesting and conversion. Specifically, innovative organic materials with photovoltaic properties that can be used in challenging (hot and/or humid) environments and present unique properties of transparency, color, and ease of manufacturing, relative to traditional silica-based technologies. Her materials are enabling incredible concepts, such as self-sustainable greenhouses that can generate all the energy they need to enable agriculture in inhospitable environments.

There is a lot to like here… great science that promises to address very important global issues and the personal story of a smart, determined, woman, full of unlikely, brave choices.

Episode 98: Silicon - The Essential Nutrient with Dr. Wendy Zellner

Dr. Zellner received her Doctorate from the University of Toledo in 2012 where she trained in molecular and cellular biology, focusing on the role of silicon in plant defense responses.  Upon graduation, she pursued a four-year postdoctoral position with the USDA-ARS, where she continued studying the role of silicon in alleviating both abiotic and biotic stress in tomato and tobacco.  Her current studies are to design standard methods for quantifying the uptake of silicon from fertilizer material in addition to identifying uptake mechanisms for silicon in model species and testing for similar pathways in other crops.

GeoSilica | Fida Abu Libdeh on CORE Knowledge Podcast

Welcome back to another episode of the CORE Knowledge Podcast and boy is today a good one!

I got to sit down with the CEO and Co-Founder of GeoSilica, Fida Abu Libdeh and discuss how a passion and drive has led to a groundbreaking technology development and game changing supplement company. Fida and the team at GeoSilica are solving a major problem with Geothermal plants by removing the silica from the brine waters and purifying it down to food grade quality resulting in a supplement that renews the body from within. The product was such a hit that Fida doesn't even have the first bottle produced because they had to sell it, and now their product line consists of 5 amazing supplements. This episode gets to the heart of this show and I applaud Fida for the work her and the team are doing. Geothermal energy is CORE to the energy future but offers so much more beyond electricity.

Joseph Carrabba on How to Find Gold in Idaho | #HashtagFinance

Joseph Carrabba on How to Find Gold in Idaho | #HashtagFinance

CSE's Anil Mall sat down with Joseph Carrabba, CEO of Bond Resources Inc. (CSE:BJB) to discuss his approach on how to find gold in Idaho and why he still gets excited about exploration after 42 years in the mining sector.

In this deep discussion, Joseph shares how Idaho is the ideal district for their exploration program (2:48), the 100+ year mining history of Elk City (10:57), the technology that is making historically low-grade deposits economically viable today (15:26) and why small miners need to lead the charge on sustainability (19:33).

Listen until the end to hear his reflections from his storied career including stints at Rio Tinto and Newmont Corporation, the talented team he's attracted, the strategy to propel the company to a "mid-major" status, and how they feed their miners on the project site!

    About Bond Resources (CSE:BJB)
Bond Resources is focused on near term production and rediscovery at the high-grade Mary K Mine in the Elk City mining district in Idaho. Led by industry veterans and located in the mining-friendly jurisdiction of Idaho, U.S.A, Bond Resources combines the technical expertise of industry veterans and a transparent communications model to increase shareholder value.

Kathryn Wierenga on Silica and Lupus

Kathryn Wierenga on Silica and Lupus

This week on The Sci-Files, Daniel and Chelsie interview Kathryn Wierenga. Kathryn is a doctoral student in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on an autoimmune disease known as lupus erythematosus.

Autoimmune diseases affect over 25 million Americans. Her lab is studying how the development of lupus is affected by two environmental factors: silica, and the dietary omega-3 fatty acid (DHA). Kathryn’s laboratory uses a lupus-prone mutated mouse model. She observes how intranasal exposure to silica triggers early loss of self-tolerance and onset of autoimmunity.

If you’re interested in talking about your MSU research on the radio or nominating a student, please email Chelsie and Danny at scifiles@impact89fm.org. Check The Sci-Files out on Twitter @SciFiles89FM and Facebook!
