15 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch with Sara Farizan

15 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch with Sara Farizan

On today’s episode, author Sara Farizan chats with me about the 1982 cult film  Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

We also tie the film’s themes pretty tightly to her recent YA horror novel, Dead Flip, which is set in the late 80s and early 90s and revolves around a possibly haunted pinball machine.

We get into the pop-culture of cursed objects and cursed capitalism, how nostalgia can be used for both good and evil, why certain story-tellers of the past might have gotten burned out, and finally, how we, as working writers, try to stop that from happening with our own creative practices.

Episode 102 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

Episode 102 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

Welcome to the Horror Project Podcast. Join hosts Laura and Phil as they review Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982).

This week we discuss the black sheep of the Halloween franchise, but did we miss the absent icon of the series, Michael Myers this time around?

We also get into the bizarre business plan devised by high-flying, mask maker’s Silver Shamrock. Which includes an incessant advertising campaign, and admittedly three very cool Halloween masks. Let’s not forget the booze-chugging, Dr. Dan Challis. The moustache wearing, ladies man, but will he be able to unravel the mystery taking place in Santa Mira?

Plus we shall be finding a place on the leaderboard for the movie during our Ranking.

We hope you enjoy the show, thanks for listening!

    11. Halloween: Season of the Witch (1982)

Oh no, must be the Season of the Witch! Steve and Jeff are taking it back to 1982 for this much overlooked Halloween sequel. Often considered the black sheep of the Halloween franchise, the boys "open this mask of bugs" and break it down.

It's a week before Halloween and a patient is brought in to the hospital for Dr. Daniel Challis to examine. The man passed out clutching a Silver Shamrock pumpkin mask and has been repeatedly saying "They're coming, they're coming." Later that night the patient is murdered by a mysterious man in a suit. Dan is soon joined by the patient's daughter, Ellie, and the two team up and travel to Santa Mira, the home of Silver Shamrock Novelties where some of the most popular Halloween masks are made but not everything is as it seems.

Halfway to Halloween II (Halloween II & Halloween III: Season of the Witch)

Halfway to Halloween II (Halloween II & Halloween III: Season of the Witch)

It's that time again. The halfway point to the most wonderful time of the year. Michael Myers returns! And then he doesn't. We'll explain. Gather round, children. Put on your Silver Shamrock masks and listen.

The first Halloween (1978) was such a huge success, that it spawned seemingly countless imitations. Can the first sequel match the power of the original? Or is it standard slasher fare, with more death due to an expanded cast, who become fodder for Michael? Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence are together again in Halloween II (1981)!

And then what is this? Michael Myers does not appear in the next movie in the series? Afraid not. In a total departure, a small town novelty company seems to have rather nefarious Halloween plans.  What do Stonehenge, robots, jack-o'-lanterns, skeletons, witches, Tom Atkins, and television commercials have in common? Well, this movie. That's pretty much it. Happy, happy Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982), from Silver Shamrock!

Ep 29 - Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

Ep 29 - Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

This week, Tim and Andy unmask the great red-headed step-child of the Halloween franchise Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. T&A talk about Samhein, age differences, and television ads. Would this have worked as a stand alone film? Is killing kids a lost art? And how many days until Halloween? Find out on this weeks episode wherever you get your podcasts.

Episode 14 - Halloween Extravaganza Part 4 - Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

Episode 14 - Halloween Extravaganza Part 4 - Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

Well this movie can certainly be polarizing, released to widespread critical and audience disdain but gaining in popularity over the decades to come Halloween 3: Season of the Witch almost defines the term cult classic.  Sure there's no Michael Myers, but there are creepy androids and creepy child killing masks, so we enjoy it for the most part.  If you watched this movie once and hated it, give it another go we think it's worth it.

    'The Childishness of Adults'
    Season One - Episode Five

In this super hi-tech service, we welcome the 'Elon Musk of Creepy Cove', Conal Cochrane of Silver Shamrock Novelties in town. He's trialing an amazing new technology that affects YOU. So be sure to listen in (though you might need to guard your ears!)

We also have an update regarding our recent Shark Exorcism, with news of Father Michael and his cruciform dinghy. Freda Krueger provides our Bible reading this evening, though she should really keep her glove in check.

Peter then joins us to talk about 'The Childishness of Adults'. For adults can indeed, when you think about it, be rather immature. Note, Peter strongly puts himself in that category too.

Following this sermon we go experimental when Gilderoy from The Berberian Sound Studio in town, joins us. He 'treats' us to some anaolgue electronic soundscapes from his heady days with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The perfect accompaniment to a time of prayer and meditation. It's pretty internal, this one. You'll know what we mean when you hear it.

Finally, our church band lead us in a rousing rendition of 'Leaning on the Everlasting Arms'.

Everyone at Creepy Cove Community Church hope that you enjoy the service. Do follow us on Twitter or Facebook for updates, and if you want more content...check out our lovely Patreon options for a bonus weekly podcast and more!

Ep #296 - Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Happy Halloween from the good(?) folk over at Silver Shamrock. That's right! We're talking Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, the only entry in the Halloween franchise that doesn't feature the iconic antagonist Michael Myers. And what better time to talk about it than on Halloween itself. Special thanks to Brok from Damage Boost for joining us.
