On April 10, 1963, the USS Thresher, the lead boat of her class of nuclear-powered submarines, went down with all hands 220-miles off the coast of Cape Cod. It was the deadliest submarine disaster in U.S. naval history. The loss of the Thresher was never fully explained and the Navy never released the report on the its sinking. That is, until a retired submarine commander sued the Navy, forcing them to come clean! Now we know why she sank...at least what the Navy thinks because analysis of SOSUS data paints a different (and more plausible) picture of events. Still, one thing we do know is the sinking of the Thresher led to sweeping changes in the submarine force that has ensured the safe operating of these vessels ever since.

Thanks Will. I’m so glad you found the show. It’s funny. You say that listening while studying for eight hours isn’t as exciting, but man, I love to hear it. Sure it’s  nice to think that we are all traveling in Ireland or Scotland, and listening to the podcast. But the truth is I listen while cleaning house, giving the girls a bath, or playing it to wear out overactive daughters right before bed.

Most of our lives are spent in mundane tasks. And while you may think it is uninteresting, personally, I find those mundane pieces of life to be fascinating and inspiring. And it lets me know how to make the show better. So thank you

This 1992 comedy starring Joe Pesci was lauded for its realistic, positive portrayal of our legal system. So I guess technically this is an episode of Reels and Lawyers and Wheels. Either way, My Cousin Vinny is a thoughtful, enjoyable, and fun movie that uses the inner workings of a 1964 Buick Skylark and a 1963 Pontiac Tempest as a key plot point.
