Superfantastic Horror Movies: Sleepaway Camp (w/ Ed from PodVanDam)

Superfantastic Horror Movies: Sleepaway Camp (w/ Ed from PodVanDam)

This time we are talking about one of the most unique horror films of the 80's. It is a campground slasher with a twist ending that most people are aware of now that we are almost 40 years past its release, Sleepaway Camp. The guest is Ed from PodVanDam and Superchantastic. We try to make sense of the story and figure out if it is problematic or just a little misguided.

    Episode 12- Sleepaway Camp

    Episode 12- Sleepaway Camp
On this week's episode we dive into our movie pick of the month; the 1983 classic Sleepaway Camp, chosen by our very own Trina, and ooohhhh boy was it a doozy. We talk short shorts, punchable faces, and which character died in the most satisfying way. We also discuss how many ways one could possibly butcher Spinny's name!

On this weeks explain the strain we are smoking some Slurricane, which is a potent 18.3% THC Indica Strain by Edison Cannabis Co. These dense, but airy, buds pack a great high within their aromatic leaves. We also enjoyed an interesting strain known as Ex Wife by QWEST. We think it's called that because it hits hard and takes half your brain cells, which makes sense, since this hybrid is a whopping 24.7%! So come along for the high, because theres Always Room For Moore.

    Midnight Murderama – 0001:0032 – Sleepaway Camp

This week our hosts continue to explore the slasher genre by looking at some of the outliers that slipped out of the slasher boom of the 80s. In this case it's Sleepaway Camp (1983), the film that starts as a derivative camp slasher but has an unforgettable ending. What does this film tell us about feminism and gender politics of the 80s? What does it tell us about the length of shorts on guys in the 80s? And most importantly: what does it tell us about Ricky's hat choices?

    FF 25: Sleepaway Camp Retrospective

    FF 25: Sleepaway Camp Retrospective

We're ready to wrap up the Sleepaway Camp franchise! Join us as we discuss the major themes in this franchise, as well as issues of transphobia in horror films. Our dad will stop by to talk about his experience as a camper and a counselor, and tell stories about two different people whose names we have to bleep out. We'll also talk about crop tops, state ballot questions, the word "fornication", and sin worms.

FF 24: Return to Sleepaway Camp

FF 24: Return to Sleepaway Camp

Time to pack up your sleeping bags, because sleepaway camp is finally coming to an end. In the final chapter of this franchise we go back to the beginning: original director, original cast (as much as possible), and the original presence of irrational anger throughout the film. Join us as we talk about how this film fits into the Sleepaway universe, and how it does not fit into the universe of 2008, which is the year this film was made. We'll also talk about the first unfriended movie, Cordie's future children, why the woods are bad, and being a good cousin.

FF 23: Sleepaway Camp IV—The Survivor

FF 23: Sleepaway Camp IV—The Survivor

Have you ever thought to yourself: You know what would make a great 4th movie in a franchise? Taking scenes from the first 3 movies and combining them with about 15 minutes of new footage, none of which makes any sense.

If so, it's your lucky day, because it turns out that that's exactly what this movie is. Join us as we try to figure out what was going on in the original plotline for the movie, how this all came together, and if anyone else has ever seen it. We'll also talk about our experience going to see an advance screening of the upcoming Unfriended movie!

FF 21: Sleepaway Camp 2—Unahappy Campers

FF 21: Sleepaway Camp 2—Unahappy Campers

We're back at Sleepaway Camp, and even though it's a totally different camp this time, the killer is the same. So much the same, in fact, that she hasn't changed her first name, despite being only a short distance from where she killed numerous people. Join us as we dissect this film and talk about why Angela's motto of "If your morals are strong, you'll never go wrong" only sort of applies to what she's doing. We'll also talk about mullets, touching brains for the first time, and camping until we die.
