Exclusive Interview with The Whole Squad || The Sober Mom Squad

Exclusive Interview with The Whole Squad || The Sober Mom Squad

The Sober Mom Squad is just as it sounds: A Squad of Moms who are already sober, those who are just dipping their toes in exploring an alcohol free lifestyle, and everything in between!

It was my pleasure having the entire squad on the pod. What an honor! Listen for all things mommy wine culture, holiday advice and best of the show…. WHO IS ON THE NAUGHTY LIST? No topic was off limits and the squad was a delightful mix of intelligent, fierce, pretty funny mommas.

“This group was started during the COVID pandemic from an instagram post by the founder, Emily Lynn Paulson, asking how she could be of service to her audience.

Jen Elizabeth, Michelle Smith, Celeste Yvonne and Jessica Landon immediately answered the call, and the Sober Mom Squad was born!

As mothers, we need to connect, share experiences, share expertise, hear stories, and tell our own.  We need to know that we are not alone, and we need to feel that we are in a safe environment away from judgement and stigma. So, we started hosting a weekly free virtual meeting over zoom, discussing all things motherhood, the trials of suddenly homeschooling, the new dynamics of home life, and doing it all without "mommy juice."

We found that this community filled a need that had never been filled before, so we expanded it to help even more women. Women, just like you, who are inundated with wine memes and spiked seltzer ads, yet demand MORE for yourself and your families. Women like you, who don't want their kids to grow up with a mom who needs wine to survive them.

The five of us have very different backgrounds, live in different states, come from different walks of life, have different areas of expertise and training, and have different sobriety journeys. Our kids range in age from infant to 16 years old. The thing we have in common is a desire to raise children in homes where alcohol is not the focus.

Our common goal is to help other women do the same thing.” – Sober Mom Squad

An Interview with Dara Meyer || Recovery Advocate, Comedian, Mom

An Interview with Dara Meyer || Recovery Advocate, Comedian, Mom

Get ready for the laughs! In typical Lori fashion, she gets her guests comfortable enough to share their not so best moments. Dara talks motherhood, substance use disorders (weed, alcohol), being ballsy enough to plan her wedding, before her engagement. From troubles getting pregnant (while sober), to the I.U.I. process (not fun), Dara shares her most intimate moments, while keeping us laughing.

Living in and working in NYC, relationships, sex sheets, parent's illnesses, mother in law, 12 step work and more... no topic is off limits. Buckle up... it's quite the ride.

DARA MEYER BIO: Dara Meyer, a former production events director for the National Football League, MTV and Billboard, has been producing events, ranging from small intimate tapings to large-scale nationally televised concerts, for over 20 years. With responsibilities that include marketing integration, sponsorship, red carpet/step and repeat entry, green room, pre/post party planning and event ticketing, Dara has separated herself as a market leader in the production events industry.

After leaving Billboard in 2015 to start her own production firm, Upfront Productions, Dara was asked to work on the first UNITE to Face Addiction Event.  A concert for 25,000 people on the National Mall in Washington D.C., Dara would see events like this many a time in her career, this event however, was different.

With a mission to dispel the stigmas associated towards addiction this concert was a first of its kind.  Addressing the issue was especially meaningful to Dara, herself in recovery since 2010.  It was the first time she was able to marry her two passions, her career and her recovery…

Since then Dara has continued to spend time working on bringing light to the importance of recovery through events and conferences dedicated to the cause.

In 2017 Dara produced the first-ever She Recovers in NYC Conference. The inaugural event was held over three days in New York City and was attended by over 500 women from around the world.

When not acting as a champion for those in recovery Dara enjoys spending time with her two daughters and husband.

One Mom's Journey Into Sobriety - Carly Malsom

One Mom's Journey Into Sobriety - Carly Malsom
Alcoholism affects more people and more homes in each of our immediate lives than any of us probably want to realize. Its hard to talk about. Its uncomfortable and far too easy to douse with judgement and bias. Carly Malsom is a wife and home-schooling mom of 3 kids. She is smart and funny and creative and bold, and she’s been a role model to many young lives, especially throughout dance industry. But behind the scenes, she sometimes battles with a craving to escape. For many years, binge drinking was her solution to that. Carly caught my attention with a 7-minute video, posted to Facebook on her first day of sobriety, describing her struggle with addiction and her plan to document her wellness pursuit in the form of 30-day video blog that she titled The Sober Chronicles. Now, nearly 3 months sober, Carly shares her vulnerable experience with alcoholism and the destruction it was causing within her family and inside of herself. She knows she’s not out of the woods yet, which makes her willingness to have this conversation just that much more awe-inspiring. My hope is that this episode will resonate with someone who can relate to Carly and to the pain she’s been in. If that person is you, be assured… you are not alone.
