Episode 32 - Maximizing Our RV Experience

Hello fellow Sojourners!  In this episode I look at a few ideas to help us get the most out of our RV experience.  I talk about planning, helpful apps, and general tips for traveling and maintaining our rigs.

You might already know much of this or have a lot more great ideas.  Please share any ideas you have with me and also share this podcast and your ideas with new RVers.

Remember, we want to safe and effective as we travel with a purpose.

Episode 27 - Saving Money While Traveling

Episode 27 - Saving Money While Traveling

In this episode we visit with Danny and Lynn Spain.  This wonderful Sojourner couple describe themselves as, "Most Timers" as they travel with a purpose.  We discuss several ideas of how to save money while traveling in their RV.

Please note that we mention several brand names and names of organizations in this conversation.  We are not compensated in any way by these agencies.  We simply have found them and others like them to help us save money as we travel.

Episode 26 - Safe Travel on the Information Highway

Episode 26 - Safe Travel on the Information Highway

Friends, in this episode we discuss the very important topic of keeping safe while online.  My guest is Randy Bowman, an expert in cyber security, especially in the area of personal security.  I've known Randy for over 20 years as a brother in the Lord, personal friend, and professional collogue.  He has served as an information technology specialist for government agencies, non-profit organizations, and is now the interim CEO for the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).  Randy brings his vast knowledge and experience together to offer us some very important information to help protect us as we travel with a purpose.

This episode is rather lengthy, running an hour long.  But it is well worth listening to through the end.

Episode 25 - A Conversation With Aven Hook About Finding Hope as We Age

Episode 25 - A Conversation With Aven Hook About Finding Hope as We Age

This is a bit of a departure from our regular podcast content.  Some of you may know that I have a second podcast called, Our Journey to Hope where I discuss how we can discover, sustain, or regain hope.  I thought the subject of this specific episode would be of help and interest to our Sojourning community.  But not only for ourselves, but to help others discover, sustain, or regain hope  so please consider sharing.

In this episode we have an insightful discussion with Aven Hook of the Easten Hills congregation about how we can sustain and regain hope as we age.  As we age we face changes , sometimes from a direction we didn't expect.  Some of these changes are negative, and some positive.  We look at some of these and some suggestions of how we can overcome the negative ones and increase the hope found through the positive ones.

If you have a loved one or know someone facing changes as they grow, please consider sharing this episode with them.  You might also enjoy listening to it so you will be prepared to face changes in your life and in the life of others.

    I'm Homesick

    I'm Homesick

With us in the midst of perilous times in the last days we as Christians need to remember we are strangers and pilgrims in this world.  It is okay for us to be homesick and want to be in the Lord's presence, but we have to remember that there is still work for us to do here on earth.  The patriarchs of old looked for a city whose builder and maker was God and we too look for that city.   God has a city prepared for His children and until that time He calls us home we must remember to stay in faith and the joy of the Lord.

Go Into The Land (Joshua) No.14- Strangers At Mt. Ebal

Go Into The Land (Joshua) No.14- Strangers At Mt. Ebal
The journey of Joshua leading the Israelites to the valley near Mount Ebal is a remarkable story of obeying the commandments of God. After building an altar, Joshua reads the law, and the people worship with a sense of holiness and faith. But what's even more amazing is that among those worshipping, there are also sojourners from other nations who chose to abandon their old lives to become a part of God's covenant people. This shows that God is patient in bringing people under His wings, and He calls all His beloved chosen sojourners into His family. This invitation is not just reserved for the Israelites but for everyone. Throughout the Scriptures, we see that strangers are invited to become part of God's covenant family through repentance and belief in Jesus' Gospel. Here at GraceLife, we extend the same invitation to all who need redemption to be a part of our Covenant community by embracing what Jesus has done on the cross.

    The Letter That Changed Everything

    The Letter That Changed Everything

When prominent spiritual leaders are abusive, their victims are at the epicenter of the earthquake. But when the truth comes out, the rest of us still feel the aftershocks.

In this final episode, we turn to the wider community that was impacted by Jean Vanier’s abuse — people who didn’t know Vanier directly, but who read his books, were inspired by L’Arche’s model of community, or served as volunteers. What do we call the kind of harm these people experience? And how do we heal from it? You’ll hear from ethicist Karen Guth about different options for responding to tainted legacies and from spiritual abuse expert Rachael Clinton Chen about the “shrapnel” of spiritual abuse.

And you’ll hear the story of how Judy Farquharson — with the help of Donna Varnau and Cecilia McPherson — helped clear the path for other victims of Jean Vanier to come forward.

    'This Isn't Some Holy Moment'

    'This Isn't Some Holy Moment'

Donna knew something wasn’t right when Thomas Philippe came to her room. Cecilia hid the truth even from herself. Judy thought she just wasn’t “holy enough” to understand.

In this episode, three women who were sexually and spiritually abused at L’Arche by Jean Vanier and Thomas Philippe tell their stories. You’ll learn how each of them suffered, but also how they’ve worked together to find healing and justice. You’ll also hear from Rachael Clinton Chen, an expert who helps people recover from spiritual and sexual abuse.

The Second Death of Jean Vanier

The Second Death of Jean Vanier

Jean Vanier died in May 2019, a beloved spiritual leader, celebrated for his work with people with intellectual disabilities. But in February 2020, he died again when a report published by L’Arche, the organization Vanier founded, revealed that he had been credibly accused of spiritual and sexual abuse by six women.

In this episode you’ll hear from people who were deeply influenced by Vanier’s work – and equally shaken by the report from L’Arche. You’ll meet Charles Clark, a core member of a L’Arche community in Virginia who was “mad as heck” when he learned about Vanier’s abuse, and Tim Moore, a L’Arche leader in Atlanta who had to break the terrible news to his community. Plus, host Jenna Barnett opens up about the role of L’Arche and Jean Vanier in her own faith journey.

S3E28 Lisa Sharon Harper: Fortune - How Race Broke My Family and the World

S3E28 Lisa Sharon Harper: Fortune - How Race Broke My Family and the World

Ken is pleased to welcome Lisa Sharon Harper and her new groundbreaking book, Fortune - How Race Broke My Family and the World--and How to Repair It All. It all began with the results of her submission of DNA to ancestry.com. Lisa learned of her Nigerian roots - and ancestry that extends all the way back to the onset of slavery in America in the 1600s. Lisa shares her story of awakenings, which began when she became a Christian as a high school student in Young Life. She soon learned that her new faith was inextricably linked to white Republican politics - her activist mother was horrified. At Rutgers, as an undergraduate, she was active in Campus Crusade for Christ. She encountered the writings of John Perkins. In her book, Lisa traces the history of her family tree including the Lawrences, the Weeks, and the Fortune Magee Game born in 1689. Her family lived with the heavy consequence of race laws that governed slavery and defined "whiteness" as they were written over 300 years. Jesus, Lisa reminds us, was not white, he was brown, indigenous, and colonized - and killed by Empire. Lisa has a great insight into "white fragility" - it's worse. Resistance has been weaponized. Lisa traveled with "Nuns on the Bus," uncovering the roots of the MAGA narrative.  SHOW NOTES
