Ep. 545 – Great Lakes Region Habitat and Hunting Update

Ep. 545 – Great Lakes Region Habitat and Hunting Update

Host Chris Jennings is joined by Jay Anglin, Great Lakes Region migration editor for ducks.org, and the two discuss the impacts of the most recent winter storm which barreled into the Great Lakes last week. As the season’s closed across many Great Lakes states, the region remained very mild, leaving ducks and geese to hold tight. The recent winter storm sent them packing from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, northern Indiana and Illinois. With a quick thaw in the short-term forecast, hunters who hunt in areas where the seasons are still open, may be in for a strong finish.

    The Southern Indiana takeover

    The Southern Indiana takeover

We look at a slew of developments in Southern Indiana on this week's Access Louisville podcast. This podcast coincides with our Southern Indiana edition of Louisville Business First.
We start out in Jeffersonville, where there's a major opportunity to transform land along the Ohio River front from industrial space that was the old Jeffboat shipyard to possibly residential, commercial and mixed use community space.
LBF Reporter Steve Schmidt recently spoke with the people behind the project and is on the show to tell us about where it stands.
Next, we go over huge changes coming to Clarksville — including an effort to finally give the historic community a proper downtown near the former Colgate-Palmolive plant.
We also talk about the developing plans for Origin Park nearby — a massive effort that officials see being of regional importance. And we discuss improvements along Main Street in New Albany, which have challenged businesses.
Finally, we wrap up the show with an interview with Charlestown Mayor Treva Hodges, who gives us an update on all the things happening in her community.

Before USI, Coach John was with Coach Stan at the University of Indianapolis for two seasons. In addition, Coach John spent five seasons working for Coach Scott Trost at Lewis University. Coach Spruance’s journey to Lewis is simply a product of hard work, determination, and perseverance. After a two year playing career at one of the best D3 programs in the country, Hope College, Coach John went back and forth trying to figure out if the coaching industry was his true calling. The economy is reopening — Are you excited or not?

The economy is reopening — now is that a good thing or not?
We talk about it on this week's episode of the Access Louisville podcast. Reporters Marty Finley and Haley Cawthon are on the show this week. Finley has been closely following government restrictions and reopening plans in Kentucky and in Indiana. Cawthon has been keeping close tabs on our restaurant businesses, which have suffered a great deal during this crisis.
We go over when and how government restrictions are being lifted in each state and what retailers and restaurants think about it.
We also chat about how we feel personally about the restrictions being lifted. Will we be the first in line when restaurants finally open their doors?
Later in the show, Cawthon tells us how big restaurant chain earnings are looking, specifically those at Yum Brands Inc., Texas Roadhouse Inc. and Papa Johns International Inc. And we give some shoutouts to restaurants that have been crushing the delivery and takeaway game in recent weeks.
We also chat about our travel plans for the year. This might be the year that Digital Editor David Mann takes a short trip to Brown County Indiana for vacation. Better than taking a plane somewhere right?

Fire. Aim.  Here we go Hoosiers!!!  Discussed our early interest and connection to IU athletics, a look at the current season for football and what we are looking forward to with the 18-19 basketball season.
