LempsTalkinPack #163: Looking Back, Looking Ahead: CBs/S/STs

Chris Lempesis is back with part four, the final installment, of his series examining the season that was for the Green Bay Packers, and also taking a look at the offseason that lies ahead. In this edition, he takes a look at the back end of Green Bay's defense, the corners and safeties, and the special teams, as well. Who are some players the Packers could be looking to add to the secondary, either via free agency or the draft? Which special teamer is most on the hot seat heading into next season? He answers those questions and much more in this episode.

Preaching patience and sense (and talking a little bit of German)

Preaching patience and sense (and talking a little bit of German)

Changes abound in college football, and of course, Penn State wasn't immune to them in the last week.
With special teams coordinator Stacy Collins off to Boise State, head coach James Franklin worked quickly to replace him by bringing in Vanderbilt's Justin Lustig. But the greater coaching chaos around the country obviously dwarfed the third coordinator change on Penn State's staff this offseason.
This week on the Penn Stated podcast, hosts Donnie Collins and Sam Fremin talked about what areas Lustig could make an immediate impact in Happy Valley, and why one less talked-about part of his position might actually be a boon for the coaching staff.
They also take a deep dive into Nick Saban's retirement at Alabama and the ripple effect associated with it around college football. When coaches talk about necessary change around the game, maybe the University of Arizona would be a good example to look toward.
Donnie and Sam also...finally...delve into some listener requests and talk about whether there should be a legitimate quarterback competition heading into 2024 after Drew Allar's performance in his debut season as a starter. The bottom line: Of course there should be. But, it also comes with a bit of advice. Calm down. And understand the importance of development, especially at the quarterback position.
All that -- and, of course, more! -- on the podcast this week.

Hank Bauer – Perhaps the greatest special teams player in NFL History Ep. #110

Hank Bauer – Perhaps the greatest special teams player in NFL History Ep. #110

Hank Bauer, a record shattering running back from tiny D-3 Cal Lutheran, was picked up in 1977 by the San Diego Charger and went on to become, perhaps, the greatest special teams player in NFL history

Bauer holds the NFL single-season record for most special-teams tackles with 52, a record which will never be broken (28 tackles is second).

As a short-yardage specialist and often referred to “Hank the Howitzer” for his explosive running style, Bauer finished one season with 18 carries for a total of 28 yards, scoring 8 touchdowns and achieving 9 first downs.

Bauer was forced to retire in 1983, after playing six games with a broken neck.[7]

After retiring from professional football he coached running backs and special teams for four years with the Chargers, then became a sports anchor for KFMB in San Diego from 1987 to 2002. He worked from 1998 to 2014 as the color commentator for the Chargers radio broadcast.

Bauer was honored in November 2009 as one of the 50 Greatest Chargers in team history, as part of the Chargers’ 50th Anniversary season celebration. This will be his 47th season associated with the NFL.

Join Mick and Mook on September 14 and meet this NFL legend.

Learning to Walk at Age 9, Now Walking through the Finish Line - The Dynamic Duo

Join in for a conversation with Nick Hyndman & Josh Jordan to catch a glimpse of what it's like to go for extreme physical and mental challenges.  Cerebral palsy might slow down Nick but his mindset is the real champion.

Nick overcame the odds and learned how to walk at 9 years old. Then continued on to join the wrestling team in high school. Nick reminds us "it doesn't matter what physical challenge you are facing, you can overcome it." Nick continues to defy the odds.

Josh wrestled with Nick at Perrysburg High School (Ohio) and is the muscle behind the two of them as they compete. Marathons, triathlons, even the Ironman 70.3 in Muncie, IN last year!
