Mal wieder stimmt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und gleichzeitig sind wir heute auch mal wieder in Schottlnd in der Speyside unterwegs. Wir verkosten The Glenlivet Founders Reserve, der aus einer Brennerei kommt, die es Daniel doch sehr angetan hat. The Whisky World Returns to Speyside

Tickets for this year's Spirit of Speyside Festival go on sale next Monday (March 7), and festival organizers are hoping for a return to normal after two years of pandemic-caused cancellations and postponements. We'll talk with the festival's new volunteer chairman, George McNeil, about plans to hold a traditional Spirit of Speyside Festival from April 27 through May 2, along with some of the changes planned for this year's event. In the news, we'll look at the Ukraine invasion's impact on the whisky business, along with more details on plans for a new Campbeltown distillery.

In der heutigen Folge Dram Good starten wir mit dem Daftmill 2007 Winterbatch 2019 noch bevor die eigentliche Folge losgeht. Im Verlauf sprechen wir dann über Macallan und die neue Fine Oak Range, Whisky in den USA und kommen natürlich auf unser neues Sample-Set zu sprechen. Wir besprechen den Tormore 1995 (WID 57000) und passend dazu reden wir über die Signatory Vintage Collection und die Signatory Un-Chillfiltered-Collection a.k.a. Silberdosen. Heute Starten wir mit der ersten Verkostung aus unserem Sample Set. Als hätten wir es vorher gewusst, passt auch unser erstes Thema genau zur Flasche: der Designwechsel bei Benromach. Die Brennerei hat ihr gesamtes Design über den Haufen geworfen und die Meinungen dazu gehen weit auseinander - der Aufreger der Woche quasi. Passend dazu verkosten die den 15-jährigen Standard der Brennerei. Obwohl wir in dieser Folge gefühlt doppelt so schnell sprechen wie sonst, haben wir gar nichts weiter in die Folge packen können. Dram Good - Batch 02 Episode 11

Liebe Hörerinnen und Hörer, es ist Sonntag und damit Dram Good Time! Heute sprechen wir bummelig über eine neue Abfüllung von whiskybroker.co.uk, darüber, dass Oxidation in der Flasche ziemlich zuträglich sein kann und natürlich über das diesjährige Islay Festival of Music and Malt. In der Verkostung haben wir heute einen ganz besonderen Malt, denn er stammt aus eine geschlossenen Brennerei - Caperdonich. Ehemals als Glen Grant 2 in betrieb genommen, ist die Brennerei nun schon seit knapp 18 Jahren stillgelegt. Trotzdem füllt der Eigentümer Pernod Ricard aktuell 18-, 21- und 25-jährige Caperdonichs ab. Wir hatten den 18-Järigen im Glas - ein stark rauchiger Speysider aus dem exBourbon Fass. Ihr seht, diese Abfüllung ist in jeglicher Hinsicht etwas Besonderes, denn sie ist auch noch bezahlbar. Viel Spaß beim Hören! Olli & Tim

Dram Good - Batch 02 Episode 08

Es ist Sonntag, draußen ist das Wetter endlich mal so, dass man ruhigen Gewissens drin bleiben kann. Was gibt es da besseres, als eine neue Folge Dram Good? Nicht viel, wie wir meinen! Heute starten wir direkt mit der Verkostung des Craigellachie 17 aus dem Herzen der Speyside. Ein Malt, der rein äußerlich viel verspricht und auch mit seinen inneren Werten überzeugen kann. Wir sind zumindest ziemlich angetan. Weiter geht es mit Tims Bericht über das letzte Blindtasting von Friends of Single Malt - FoSM. Die Brennerei, die es zu erraten galt war die irische Waterford Distillery. Genau, die neue von Mark Reynier. Die Brennerei verfolgt sehr interessante Ansätze und dementsprechend war das Tasting sehr interessant, wenn auch Tim völlig im Dunklen tappte. Daran anknüpfen sprechen wir - wie sollte es anders sein - über Terrior beim Whisky. Viel Spaß beim Hören Olli & Tim

A New Job...and a New Way to Spell "Whiskey"

Graham Coull grew up in Speyside spelling "whisky" without the "e" - as any proper Scot would. It didn't help him get his first job in the Scotch Whisky industry at Glenfiddich, nor did it help him get his current job 14 years ago as the manager at Glen Moray. Next month, he'll be leaving Elgin for Ireland's Atlantic coast to become the manager at Dingle Distillery - and it'll mean learning not only new styles of making whiskey...but a new way of spelling it! We'll talk with Graham on WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, a last-minute deal has headed off a strike by Diageo workers in Scotland, while the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame welcomed its Class of 2019 this week. Whiskey on the Water: Jefferson's Journey (Episode 754: February 10, 2019)

Long before highways crossed North America, flatboats with barrels of whiskey were a common sight along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers bound for New Orleans and beyond to satisfy the thirst of early consumers. Fortunately, today's route to market for distillers is paved and far more efficient - but Jefferson's Bourbon founder Trey Zoeller wanted to figure out what made the whiskey his predecessors distilled in Kentucky become so popular. He decided to send a couple of barrels from Louisville to New York City by boat in what became a year-long journey filled with tropical storms, a wrecked boat, and barrel repairs on the fly - while a batch of the same whiskey stayed behind in the rickhouse to provide a control sample. Both whiskies have now gone on sale, and we'll talk about the journey with Trey Zoeller on WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, the deadline to avoid another federal government shutdown is approaching, and failure to reach a deal in Washington could cause even more problems for whisky makers. We'll also look at the economic impact of Kentucky's booming Bourbon industry and get an update on record ticket sales for May's Spirit of Speyside Festival in Scotland.

WhiskyCast Episode 323: July 3, 2011

It's been a little over four months since a massive earthquake destroyed much of Christchurch, New Zealand and claimed 181 lives. Today, the city is trying to rebuild, despite occasional large aftershocks. One of those people trying to rebuild is Michael Fraser Milne of Whisky Galore, Christchurch's largest whisky shop. His store was destroyed in the earthquake, which came just three days before Whisky Galore's biennial DramFest festival. Michael tells us about the recovery in Christchurch, and what he calls a "humbling" outpouring of support from the whisky community. In the news, Ian Macleod Distillers has bought Tamdhu Distillery and will bring it back to life, Diageo plans to expand in Speyside, and much more!
