Chicago Auto Show Preview, Tesla Predictions, Best Cars for the Money

Chicago Auto Show Preview, Tesla Predictions, Best Cars for the Money

Jill and Tom opened the show talking about the all-new Lexus GX 550 luxury midsize SUV arriving in showrooms later this year. Also in the first segment the hosts welcome Jennifer Morand of the Chicago Auto Show. Jennifer gave an update on the Chicago Show, which opens February 10th. Tom wrapped up the segment sharing his Tesla predictions for 2024.

In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome John Vincent of U.S. News and World Report. John walked the hosts through the outlet’s “2024 Best Cars for the Money” list. It’s noteworthy that three brands dominated the 11-vehicle list.

In the last segment Jill is subjected to Tom’s “Was it ever…” fake-model quiz. Did Jill win again? After the quiz Jill shared her thoughts on new-car-feature subscription fees. Per Jill, while many of the features in question are currently available at no cost to owners, use will eventually be subject to monthly charges. And, interestingly, in many cases auto makers have not yet set pricing for said features.

WB_S3E44 The Comfort of Crows with Margaret Renkl

WRITERS' BLOCK Beloved NYT Opinion columnist and Bestseling Author, Margaret Renkl joins Patti Callahan Henry and Ron Block to talk about her glorious new collection of essays, The Comfort of Crows, which Ann Patchett calls a "howling love letter to the world". This sublime collection of stories follows Margarets year long astute and thought-provoking view of the natural world outside her window. There's something so soothing, tender and vital about hearing her talk about the joy, the grief and the importance of caring for every living thing out our own windows- especially the first bird we see each new year. A stunning conversation and observation about our climate.

    Moods, Attitudes, and Sexy Squirrels

    Moods, Attitudes, and Sexy Squirrels

Eric and I tried something new this week, we took the podcast outside.  While we usually only have to worry about our dogs and cats interrupting, this time, in addition to our normal fuzzy guests, we added in some feathery ones, as our chickens were making themselves heard.  But the cherry on top, the unplanned, sexcapades of our local squirrel friends.  They definitely made themselves known, honestly I was so distracted, but it was one of the funniest interruptions I have ever had.  I almost wonder if God planned that...

Although our podcast was about being in a bad mood or mindset as a Christian (which I was when we first began recording) God decided He wanted more joy, I guess.  Because listening back.on this episode was hysterical and reminded me, not to take things so serious.  Sometimes I need that reminder and I am so thankful for this one.

I hope you enjoy my Thoughtful Ramblings, Love Michelle

Creasey has been managing the Coca Cola Club for 20 years and brings a wealth of habitat management knowledge to the discussion. The two discuss moist-soil management, along with how they are able to manage hunting pressure throughout the season.

The Brochure on Gardening - More Than Just Petunias

The Brochure on Gardening - More Than Just Petunias

You've seen that one apartment balcony with all the plants?  Yeah, that was me for a while...before the squirrels found me.  Now that we are living in a house, the garden needs a LOT of work.  It's again become an oasis for me.  It all started when I was a kid.  A quirky kid who learned all the botanical names of the plants in our yard.  And was looking for a way to be creative and get out of the house!  Now I'm enjoying building back the garden that was pretty much destroyed by neglect.  Gardening brings joy, but also being out in a garden, in nature, brings us joy and peace.

    257. Questions? Answers!

Today, I’m joined by America’s Favorite Retired College Horticulture Professor, Debbie Flower, and we are going to spend the entire episode answering your garden questions. We will be going into mind-numbing detail as well as frivolous scenic bypasses over such queries as:

What’s the easiest way to apply fertilizer around fruit trees when the area is covered with mulch?  (1:24)

What are some lawn alternatives that are low maintenance and drought tolerant? (12:16)

Why aren’t my carrots sweet? Did the rain do that? (30:48)

And the question for which there is no definitive answer: How can I keep the squirrels out of my garden and orchard?  (36:58)

We’re podcasting from Barking Dog Studios here in the beautiful Abutilon Jungle in Suburban Purgatory. It’s the Garden Basics with Farmer Fred podcast, brought to you today by Smart Pots and Dave Wilson Nursery. Let’s go!

    Maxy's Playtime Adventure

    Maxy's Playtime Adventure

Once upon a time, there was a cute little puppy named Maxy. He had big brown eyes and a fluffy tail. Maxy loved to play with his best friends, Rocky, Sarah, and Daisy the horse. They would run and play together in the meadow all day long.

One day, Maxy and his friends decided to explore the forest. Maxy was so excited and said "Let's go explore the forest, it will be so much fun!" But his Daddy Dog warned him "Be careful Maxy, there are big rocks and deep streams in the forest." Maxy, being excited, didn't take his Daddy's warning seriously and went off with his friends, running and chasing butterflies and squirrels.

As they were playing, Maxy chased a butterfly and didn't see the big rock in front of him. He tripped and fell, hurting his paw. Rocky, Sarah, and Daisy all came to help him. "Are you okay Maxy?" asked Sarah, while Daisy the horse said "Let me check your paw, I know how to help." Daisy used her gentle touch to check Maxy's paw, and she found that it was only a small scratch. Maxy's Daddy Dog came to find them and helped Maxy back home.

Maxy felt guilty for not listening to his Daddy Dog's warning. He apologized and promised to be more careful in the future. From that day on, Maxy made sure to pay attention to warnings and be extra cautious when exploring new places. He learned that it's important to listen to those who care for us and have our best interests at heart. He had a lot of fun with his friends, but he also learned a valuable lesson.
