Debts-cember 2022 Part 4 - Best of the Rest
On this week's show, we wrap up the merry month of Debts-cember (and the year in general) with...
- the most honorable of mentions
- the runners-up that fill our cup
- the best of the rest of 2022
All this & much, much less!
Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004.
A Streetcar Named Desire: Haunting & Bathtub
Stellaaaaaa. Pour yourself a lemon coke with plenty of chipped ice, because we're about to sweat our way through the gothic world of Tennessee Williams. The person most confused by the film this week was: Blanche's boyfriend during the daytime.

Episode 95: Naomi Ekperigin (The Stand Ups on Netflix) & Andy Beckerman (The Pete Holmes Show) Interview (How To Be A Couple After Show)
If you haven’t listened to last week’s episode How To Be A Couple written by Naomi Ekperigin (The Standups on Netflix) & Andy Beckerman (The Pete Holmes Show) you must! While you’re at it, check out their podcast Couples Therapy too. This is our After Show interview with Naomi & Andy. It’s a fun one too! You’ll hear them get into the unique dynamics of their writing relationship and how they go about writing their relationship. We got into the great New York watercolor magazine wars of the early 2000s; Naomi & Andy’s first project together - the reality show Inside Caucasia; Naomi’s first job as a writer’s assistant on Broad City; how to deal when your partner has a different hill they want to die on then you; why you need to be careful about who you riff with, and so much more. Naomi & Andy are absolutely hilarious and a delight to talk to. Enjoy this one and thanks for listening!

Searching For Answers on Masculinity | Michael Ian Black on Manhood, Strength, Vulnerability
The concept of masculinity is straight-up intimidating to even begin to comprehend. There’s no real cut-and-dry definition. Like so many big concepts, it’s far easier to throw your hands up and say, “it’s too complicated!” rather than commit to understanding the topic more deeply. Luckily for us, comedian Michael Ian Black has spent countless hours exploring masculinity. In his book A Better Man, he approaches what it means to be masculine through an open letter to his teenage son. His musings pave a clear path for any father, son, mother, daughter (or, incidentally, saber-tooth tiger) to approach the subject with an open mind and heart.
Episode 66 of Modern Dadhood open with Marc reflecting on his recent experience with Covid, and a belated Happy Mother's Day wish to all of the moms, before the guys throw it to the second half of the chat with Michael Ian Black. Michael is a father of two college-age children, Elijah and Ruthie, and is best known for his roles in Wet Hot American Summer, The State, and the comedy troupe Stella. Additionally, he hosts the podcasts "Obscure," "How To Be Amazing", and Topics (with Stella cohort Michael Showalter). Michael has written books for grown-ups and kids, and his 2020 book A Better Man: A (Mostly Serious) Letter to My Son, which balances the exploration of topics like "toxic masculinity" and gender inequality with personal anecdotes from his childhood and career in comedy. Conversation topics include:
• Emotional strength and vulnerability
• The value of men expressing when they need help
• Why the concept of masculinity is hard to define
• Various ways to approach thinking about masculinity
• The cultural importance of A Better Man
• The importance of demonstrating healthy masculinity to our children
• And more!
This is part two of a two part conversation.
