Paul Edmondson (Enduro Racer)
Paul "Fast Eddy" Edmondson, best known as an enduro racing champion, has successfully added stunt work to his resume, most recently doubling for Daniel Craig in the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die. Paul surprised a team of Triumph marketers at a dinner meeting, which turned into an impromptu interview. During the brief chat, Paul shared a bit about being a 4-time World Enduro Champion, and being the record holder for most gold medals in the International Six Day Enduro (ISDE) event, before explaining how he migrated to film work, including his most recent epic jump on a Scrambler 1200 as 007 in No Time To Die.

118: The Getaway (1972) and Midnight Special (2016)
On the lam is the theme for this week. Sam Peckinpah's "The Getaway" (1972) is based on the pulp novel written by Jim Thompson and stars Steve McQueen. With all that going for it, you'd think it would be a really good film, but it's just not. It's not bad but could have been better with a recast of the two leads. "Midnight Special" (2016) is the opposite as Michael Shannon heads a great cast for this pseudo-sci fi thriller. Matt wishes this cast could do a remake of "The Getaway". Definitely underrated.
Next, I love this stupid movie with "Rhubarb" (1951) and "The Stoned Age" (1994).
Thanks for listening!

Season 6: Heists, Cons, & Grifters - The Thomas Crown Affair (Episode 18)
In the eighteenth episode of Season 6 (Heists, Cons, & Grifters) Kyle is joined by fellow podcaster Zax Protzmann (of the West Coast Popcast) and editor Kristi Shimek to discuss the effortlessly stylish and suave technique that represents the battle of the sexes and the minds in Norman Jewison's The Thomas Crown Affair (1968).
Dave Kunz - Automotive Specialist SoCal KABC 7 Eyewitness News
Dave Kunz has been an employee of ABC7 for a quarter-century, becoming the Eyewitness News Automotive Specialist in February 2001. In addition to his duties as a photographer and editor, his on-camera work makes ABC7 the only station in Southern California with a dedicated reporter covering automobiles and related topics.
Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Dave always gravitated toward the Southern California car culture that was all around him. His television career started in an unusual way, however. Dave was offered a "temporary, part-time job" at KABC-TV while in college as a business major. Though business would always be something to fall back on (keeping his family happy), broadcasting was continually calling his name. He went on to a formative career in television, first at KTLA and then back at KABC.
Eventually, Dave was able to merge his career in television with his passion for things with wheels, and now gets to experience just about anything that runs on gasoline (or increasingly, clean new cars that don't use any), and bring them to Eyewitness News viewers. He is a member of both the Motor Press Guild and the Society of Automotive Historians. Dave also volunteers as an emcee at local vintage car shows such as The Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show, the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance, and the Art Center Car Classic.
Dave spends his free time with his wife, Suzanne, who helps him keep a small collection of classic cars in (usually) running order.

Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood (2019)
"Anybody order Fried Sauerkraut!?"
Welcome back to another flame-throwing, hippie-destroying, fairytale fantasy, and history-altering episode of THE FILM SNARKS!!!
This week’s episode marks our long overdue first time coverage of a Quentin Tarantino film, and because Tarantino just released the novel, what better time to revisit his most recent 9th film, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood!!
And according to Tarantino, the novel is "a complete rethinking of the entire story", that adds details to various sequences and characters, including multiple chapters dedicated to the backstory of Cliff Booth, who’s played with Oscar-winning confidence and swagger by Brad Pitt in the film.
This one's a sure trip down Hollywood Boulevard, so join us as we discuss at length the real-life actor-stunt double buddy ships that inspired Rick and Cliff, the controversies surrounding Bruce Lee, but also just what exactly went down with the Manson family and Sharon Tate murders… according to Tarantino!
"What a picture!"

Omniaudience: The Big Society, with Derica Shields
Derica Shields joins Nikita Gale and Alexander Provan to speak about the value of listening to Black peoples’ accounts and analyses of their own lives. They discuss Shields’s book-length oral history of Black experiences of the welfare state, “A Heavy Nonpresence,” recently published by Triple Canopy. Shields reflects on her effort to share the stories of Black people who are mistreated and monitored by the state, while also being made to feel that they should be grateful for receiving the assistance to which they’re entitled. Her work shows how, in Britain, liberal nostalgia for the so-called care of the state is premised on not listening to those who receive benefits—and how politicians and journalists enable Black people to be shamed for doing so by upholding the age-old distinction between the deserving and undeserving poor (as if colonialism never happened).
With Gale and Provan, Shields listens to and discusses excerpts from “A Heavy Nonpresence,” which includes accounts of seven Londoners whose lives are entwined with the welfare system. Shields advocates for oral history as a way of enabling marginalized people to be heard—and to hear each other—as well as to mitigate shame and circulate survival strategies. She notes that government assistance for Black people tends to be thought of as contingent on “good behavior,” but observes a recent shift in public opinion and political discourse, due to a reckoning with Britain’s history of colonialism and racism. Rather than act thankful for the rewards of navigating an inhumane bureaucracy, more and more people are saying: “We are here, and the same rights accrue to us.”
Derica Shields is a writer, researcher, and cultural worker living in London. She is the author of the forthcoming book Bad Practice (Book Works, 2021). Her work has been published by Frieze, Flash Art, Cell Project Space, and the New Inquiry, and presented by the Institute for Contemporary Arts (London) and Spectacle Theater (Brooklyn), among other publications and institutions.
With Gale and Provan, Shields speaks about Beverly Bryan, Stella Dadzie and Suzanne Scafe, The Heart of the Race (Virago Press, 1985); Johnnie Tillmon, “Welfare Is a Women’s Issue,” Ms., spring 1972; a video of the Labour MP David Lammy lambasting the British government for deporting immigrants on April 16, 2018; and a newsreel of West Indian workers, including the famed calypso musician Lord Kitchener, arriving in London aboard the SS Empire Windrush in 1948.
Medium Rotation is produced by Alexander Provan with Andrew Leland, and edited by Provan with Matt Frassica. Tashi Wada composed the theme music. Matt Mehlan acted as audio engineer and contributed additional music.
Medium Rotation is made possible through generous contributions from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Nicholas Harteau. This season of Medium Rotation is part of Triple Canopy’s twenty-sixth issue, Two Ears and One Mouth, which receives support from the Stolbun Collection, the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation, Agnes Gund, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

Steve McQueen’s ‘Mangrove’ and ‘Red, White and Blue’
This week we are diving into Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Amazon Prime by discussing two of the films; Mangrove and Red, White and Blue. We chose to pair these two films because they both explore police brutality in London’s West Indian community. Ify also reveals that he thought the Black, British filmmaker Steve McQueen was the same person as the white, American actor Steve McQueen, who died in 1980. But no one’s perfect. We also take a call from the “Who Shotline” asking us which other directors we’d like to see direct Justice League. And, as always, we’ve got “Staff Picks.”
Plus, we must ask a simple favor. Please tell us a story about why you support our show! What do you think about us? What do we mean to you? You can email us at memberstories@maximumfun.org or call our Google hotline at (323) 601-8719.
