308: How Women's Symptoms of Stroke Differ from Men: Understanding Female-Specific Factors and Symptoms | DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE

Each year, 55,000 more women than men have strokes in the United States. In this episode, Maya Acosta and Dr. Rizwan Bukhari discuss how women's stroke symptoms differ from men, emphasizing the importance of recognizing nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, and confusion. Women are at a higher risk of stroke compared to men, and this is due to various factors unique to women such as pregnancy,  pre-eclampsia, menopause, hormone replacement therapy, and atrial fibrillation. Women of color have a higher risk of stroke than white women, mainly due to more risk factors present.

    Key Points:

    • Women can present differently from men when experiencing a stroke, and it's important to recognize nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, vomiting, disorientation, and confusion.
    • Know the risk factors unique to women and what you can do to reduce those risks.
    • Prevention is key. This means you can optimize your health to experience pregnancy and menopause with fewer complications.

Episode-27- Disruptive Impact - What is value? 🤷‍♂️ 💸 Value can definitely mean different things to different people

Episode-27- Disruptive Impact - What is value? 🤷‍♂️ 💸 Value can definitely mean different things to different people

In this episode I discuss a little bit about the 20th anniversary tomorrow of 9/11/2001

I talk about value and the perception, intentions, how different words can impact people differently it's all very subjective! The point is you will hear various experts, give their two cents including myself at times. But I think staying true to what you believe is valuable to yourself to your friends to your family to your audience to whom ever you are speaking to remains important. We don't always nail it, and that's OK. I think the point is to just keep trying, getting up when we fall down and learning from mistakes. There is no playbook for 99% of life and even if there was every single person would likely have a different variation of that playbook!

Episode-26 - Disruptive Impact- Embracing Your True Self 💖

Episode-26 - Disruptive Impact- Embracing Your True Self 💖

We hear people talking about being  our "authentic self" all the time but what does that really mean? There is no cookie-cutter solution or formula to follow there are just some steps that I recommend taking a look at once you've decided that you are ready to explore! Not everybody will have the same journey or path, but in order to find your authentic self and truly love and appreciate yourself and all your uniqueness, these are some of my suggestions, to help you get started!

Whether you should or shouldn't that is entirely up to you! From my experience it has been hard work and rewarding but just because everybody else is talking about it doesn't necessarily mean it's right for you right now at this moment in time that's only something you can decide for yourself! Hope you find this episode helpful and enjoyable and I'll be back later this week!! 🙌

There have been and are lots of posts on LinkedIn including my own about my thoughts and perspective on authenticity but the one I was thinking of in the beginning of this podcast, was from Joe Lalgee https://www.linkedin.com/posts/recruitmentmarketing1_linkedin-personalbranding-activity-6840728523997528064-mWMv

    Episode-25-Disruptive Impact: Botox...Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda? #DoYou

As usual a day late!  Today I talk a little bit about Botox in a little bit of a personal thing! I also talk about some interesting things being chatted about on LinkedIn and other platforms. Some highlights from today include diversity of thought, challenging assumptions, growing, getting over the fear of the unknowns. At the end of the day everything takes time and patience. What works for somebody else may not work for you but for me I always like to hear different opinions and perspectives it helps me get clear on my thinking about my decisions. Episode-24-Disruptive Impact: Do you have to be likable to be a good leader?

Episode-24-Disruptive Impact: Do you have to be likable to be a good leader?

In this Disruptive Impact Episode, I start off by apologizing for the poor audio quality in Tuesday's episode apparently some things got off track over the summer but I think everything is back in order! The focus on this episode is do you have to be likable to be a good leader? That is dependent on so many factors, however to keep it simple I think the answer when you think about the question further is absolutely. Here are my thoughts on why and I pose the question to listeners what do you think about it from another perspective how does it resonate for you?

This came up again recently in conversation and somebody asked a really poignant question that I hadn’t thought about previously. Have you ever had or worked for or alongside of a leader you didn’t like? If you didn’t like the person where are you doing your best work or were you truly engaged and inspired?

I thought it was a great question and it really got me thinking a little bit differently about my previous lens.(initially likability didn’t resonate with me as much as I realized later)

You may not like every decision somebody makes, there are times unexpected and unforeseen things happen in life. Every leader along the way is likely to make a mistake or say something out of character so you have to look at the overall body of work in my opinion!

When I reframed what likability meant to me, my initial stance changed, but more importantly I think it evolved with more careful consideration and a little bit of different thinking or perspective shifting.

Think about your own experiences and when have you been at your best working for yourself or alongside another team or group or leader, did you feel:

    ✨Motivated

    ✨Inspired

    ✨Respected

    ✨Positively Impacted

    ✨Autonomy

✨Provided a safe environment to fail and learn and grow?

✨Were Trust,Transparency, and Integrity were valued and present?

    ✨Did you feel heard?

Sometimes we can overcome bad bosses, but typically that is short-lived and not a viable long-term solution, not to mention a burden to our mental and physical health!

This is by no stretch a comprehensive list of traits or qualities of great leaders, just merely some thoughts to get you thinking? Curious to hear your thoughts and if you have ever had a particular stance on something and then changed your mind over time?

The more I thought about this q

Episode-23- I'm back after a little bit of hiatus and a reasonably nice, but expensive summer!

In episode 23 I announce that I am back and I will not be doing seasons much like I thought earlier this year. I have decided to keep moving forward for now! I now have all three children in school one is a freshman in college, the others are in second grade and kindergarten. Anyways I catch everybody up on the latest news from the summer and what's going on day today these days and I talk about a bit about plans for the future! It's good to be back I'm excited to get back in the groove and really add value for everybody listening to the podcast going forward! I am pretty sure there were some technical issues because some things got moved around in my office however if you're listening to this early on I may re-upload this podcast at a later date if it's really terrible I'll just do another episode later this week. I took a little bit about my thoughts on Ali's choice for Clemson and I compared to Miami Dade county jail lol. I also talk about exploring LinkedIn and my involvement there on that platform and how I have consolidated other social media's this summer as well. I'm really looking forward to the next couple months! It's good to be back!

    Episode-20-It's Time for a Change...

    Episode-20-It's Time for a Change...

Episode 20, As indicated by the name of the episode this week, Life has a funny way of working itself out! This week I stepped back from my full-time job after 7 years to pursue other opportunities.  I have spoken this year on a number of platforms and in clubhouse on a variety of topics and it is clear to me that the world has changed and is continuing to change at a rapid pace, which is exciting on a personal and professional level, so I am really excited about the future! After a month hiatus it's good to be back and with my schedule opening up to pursue a variety of interests I will be also getting back into the podcast on much more regular basis so be on the lookout for new episodes in the coming weeks! This week I catch up and talk on a lot of topics from coaching, to the workplace across industries leadership, books, values and so much more. I look forward to having more conversations both here on the podcast and on Clubhouse,I feel very strongly and deeply about not only speaking up in the workplace, but in everyday life as well, even if it makes other people uncomfortable, I am not OK with the status quo and following everybody else's rules. I am well aware of who I am and my background and upbringing and there is nothing I can do to change that except for use who I am to help others in a positive and impactful way. Lots of stuff on leadership and coaching as well! As always if you want to stay up to date on the latest news and happenings between episodes follow me on Twitter and Instagram! Along with recapping the weeks, This week I discuss a topic that has come up a lot recently in my world, The two main topics for this episode are really having important conversations with people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, races, sexual orientation gender etc and Women in Tech.
