    The Audacity of Men

    The Audacity of Men

I didn't know my socialization as a black girl meant that as a woman I would expect little from men and settle for even less. I had no idea that I was conditioned to accept 'struggle love' relationships. That is, I believed that mistreatment, emotional and psychological abuse, disrespect, neglect, even cheating were to be expected. Consequently, I tolerated all manner of abuse, disrespect, neglect, pain, and betrayal from men. But not anymore.

In episode S2 12, I talk about some of the 'struggle love' relationships that I endured, what was at the root of this proclivity, and how self-love and healing have changed the game.

Sisters Gathering to Heal Podcast: Courageous Conversations about Self-Love and Healing for Black Women. Host, DeBora M. Ricks, Mother, Self-Love Doula, Author, Editor, Book Midwife and Attorney.

Episode 5 was inspired by Stephanie Perry of Exodus Summit, who did some YT videos about Black Women learning to embrace a life of EASE. Shucks, it didn't even occur to most Black Women during my era to question societal and familial dictates, rules, and expectations around work, love, relationships, and success. Thank God younger BW are challenging and redefining what it means to be black and woman in America and beyond. Have a listen to why I believe BW struggle letting go of struggle.
